Would you recommend just using these speakers or is it necessary/preferable to use a subwoofer as well? (sorry im really new into this and kinda dumb)
@scottlowell4937 жыл бұрын
I've owned various klipsch over the years. The old school klipsch are harsh, and rolled off on top. The recent reference series aren't just smoother, but detailed well above 20khz. The ceramic coated aluminum woofers are like air pistons. That means the impact they have is far superior to most bookshelf designs. Drums sound like drums, not like they are veiled under a blanket. Horns project and vocals are pure. Strings have great presence.

RP series is much better, especially the 160M. Crispy as most Klipsch are, but more balanced in their mids. Add a good subwoofer to that (not Klipsch).

I have the R-15PM speakers (with a R-10SW subwoofer), but do use a Schiit Mani preamp for playing records. They sound practically the same as the RP-150M speakers, but with guaranteed super low noise floor and convenience of not being able to blow them up due to the inbuilt digital amplifier. Klipsch won me over with their amazingly natural and balanced sound, good soundstaging and instrument separation! I've used Yamaha HS80M, Mackie HR824 and Dynaudio BM5A studio monitors for years and though these sound a tad better, I was impressed by the Klipsch's. Studio monitors are amazing, but can sound too clinical for enjoyable use. The Klipsch speakers are a joy to listen to for casual to critical listeners and will not leave you wanting so depending on your available space or budget, they are definately recommended!

Nice feature of all Klipsch speakers is how dynamic they sound. They aren't the most accurate or natural speakers, but they aren't built to be that way - they have always been very lively, punchy and dynamic sounding. The day (years ago) when Klipsch started building more affordable speakers was the day more people could have that musical impact that few other quality brands have to offer. Now having said that, on the used market don't overlook the KG1,2,3,4 models. They were the first affordable Klipsch and are a really good buy on the used market. Plus with the larger models like the KG4, a subwoofer is definitely not needed so you can save money there.

I notice that you've reviewed both Klipsch R-15PM and RP-150M, do you think the powered speakers are at the same level with the passive one in terms of sound quality production?
@vinyleyezz8 жыл бұрын
+Thomas Wijaya definitely, they both sound very similar in terms of fidelity. They don't color the sound at all, so they are good reference speakers. It all depends if you have an amplifier or not, if you have one, go for the passive speakers, if not, go for the active version.

dudusta so would they work well in a home-theater set up
@TheScytheMoron8 жыл бұрын
Well ... it's often just used as a marketing word, but it SHOULD be the case, that bookshelf speakers are "regular" speakers with a ...well ... "flattering" sound, whereas studio monitors SHOULD be NEUTRAL, and they should not distribute their sound ALL around, and focus more on the musician in front of them, because that's what "MONITORS" are bulit for. So they simply play their input signal as exactly as possible. Some find it too "sterile", but well REAL monitors are not that common, especially when they are cheap (whereas "cheap" is relative in speaker terms), since at best they are hybrids in most cases.
@ped-away-g13966 жыл бұрын
bookshelf speakers are just speakers, no specific use. monitor speakers are usually used as a "reference" in studio for consistency reasons.

Klipsch are always a solid choice. Just do me one favor. Please get them off the table where your turntable rests. The vibration isn't doing your turntable/records any good. You should make your next investment a pair of dedicated (inexpensive) solid heavy (fill with sand if necessary) speaker stands. And try not to keep those adjacent to the turntable. And try to avoid corner placement. Sorry about being fussy, but your gear is really shaping up to be excellent, so it deserves some proper placement. And it 's not like I 'm get all OCD and sending you to the Cardas website... www.cardas.com/room_setup_main.php :) Anyway, have fun with them!

One of my Klipsh'es is R-41M. They're fine as rear speakers (on stands) for surround, but the difference between the Reference series and the Reference Premiere series is immense. So I was looking to buy RP-150m instead, but got a 40% deal on some RP-160m. They're absolutely fanstastic. Very balanced, not too cripsy, and decent mid-range bass. Add a SVS 1000-pro to that, and you will have a pretty good soundsystem - i promise you, the sound is so much better. And you notice that when you crank up the volumes, you get a good punch. Had 5.25" drivers before, and you never go back - 6.5" seems perfect for me. They also have very high sensitivity, so you can play them nicely on a cheap 200-300 USD AV-reciever.

No. These are not near-field monitors. They are fantastic for home us and do not require much power (a 15 watt amp will fill the room), but, up close, the horns will give you ear fatigue very fast.
