The verdict: You can spend hundreds on similar spin-type record washers. This is hands-down the best value for a very well-thought-out system that will deep clean your records in a few simple steps, and last for many, many cleanings (refill and replacement parts are available).

Great Channel. Thanks for the tips. Getting to those thrift stores and finding the rare stuff never remastered. And doing it myself. Looked at the advice out there yours seems solid. I’ve been using an old turntable different paintbrushes soft softer then microfibre cloth. Still in the early stages of experimenting. Good sound comes from a good cleaning because some decracklers and audio restoration programs can’t work miracles if one channel is over modulated. Micro crackles.

Thanks for the review! Have you used this with 78s? Minus the alcohol solution, of course. The concern was that the label cover would be so large as to cover part of the grooves, and still require hand cleaning.

I use a high quality ultrasonic cleaner for actual cleaning but in my system I use this as a final rinse with ultra pure water. I love the immersion and the brushes. Goart hair, of course is a long favored brush material for LP's. Obviously I've got a lot of money in this but I'm a dealer and that helps.... But I do like this little guy and the various Spin Clean clones,

Thanks for the Deep Groove endorsement, Rick. I too, have a high-end cleaner (Isotonic), which I absolutely love. Will be doing a vid on that soon, along with a nice offer the manufacturer is offering to Deaf Man subscribers. Stay tuned!

Works quite well. A couple downsides though. The washing fluid came out of the new bottle with black funk growing in it. Useless. Also when I removed the brushes for cleaning they no longer stay put. Every time I remove a record the brushes come up with it. I follow it up with a Vinyl Vac and am pleased with the results. 4 stars.

This is a decent washer. I tossed the fluid due to numerous people stating it leaves gunk on their albums. Also my brushes got stuck the second time i used it and they are not coming out without destroying them. But it is a good washer besides those complaints.

Nice. Recently bought it and current works well, gonna have to find a better way to consistently strain the cleaning solution as tipping the base to pour spills a bit.

I've pretty much given up on this step. The records I'm cleaning are pretty nasty. By the time I've reached 8-10, it's time for new solution. Agree that it's tough to pour from the base.

@@DeafManVinyl i use an empty water bottle and suck up the liquid and then then put through the filter. you could use a large syringe or something like that also then just tip the last bits at the bottom. but yes it its a paint to tip otherwise and yeah i too find the water needs a change after i have filled the rack anyway. i hate the solution that it came with(mind you i got it about 3 years ago and it could have been improved). i use a home made brew of distilled water, 5% isopropyl, and a tiny drop of rinse aid. but i do have 2 of these and run it through a second "rinse" in distilled water. find it to be best bang for buck

For years I've been using a Vinyl Style disk washer that has goat hair brushes using 14:1 distilled water to isopropyl alcohol, then add one drop of dawn dish soap to a gallon of this mixture. I then use a spin clean unit that has pads to rinse with 100% distilled water. I air dry on a rack. Before I play a record, I dry brush with a 4" wide goat hair watercolor paint brush then HAND HOLD the record and use an anti static gun. I've tried an ultra sonic cleaner and honestly don't see any difference except I paid just over $100 for my system. Not out to judge anyone ...just do what makes it fun and most rewarding... thats whats matters most!

Love this Channel Deaf Man. Look forward to more video's. Quick question. When I buy new collectable albums (not in boxset's) should I take the "shrink wrap" off with hype stickers? Or keep it on to maintain its value? Or at least slit the side's to release pressure? If I leave the shrink on, will the album warp in time? Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thx, Evan

Dude, so sorry to be late getting back to you. This one slipped off my radar. I've got records from the '70s still in shrink wrap, with no problems. In my experience, the wrap actually loosens a bit with age. IMO, hype stickers are a big plus for collectible records (I love them). Keep 'em spinning!

I've had mine for a year now and it works great. I however do not use the vinyl styl cleanser, instead using the Mofi super record wash. It's $30.00 a bottle and with the way I clean records I can keep a bottle for 6 months. The bottle will fill the cleaner twice. Any used records I buy without knowing how they were previously handled get cleaned, new ones only if they're clicky sounding.

Thanks for the video, I've used mine for about 2 years, maybe 500 or so cleanings with no issues and normally very positive results. I use my own cleaning solution 11oz distilled-1oz 99% alcohol and 2 drops of fotoflow. What I’d like to find is another base to use as a rinse or if they made the top, slightly taller it could work. (I now use glass bread pan filled with distilled water). Also, it would be nice to have some sort of raised arm so you can let some of the excess cleaning solution drip back into unit without holding it. I do use the Vinyl Vac after cleaning. Normally, only 1 vac rotation per side (to prevent static) and then I let album air dry in the included drying rack. I would put this system up against any of the 300-400-dollar record cleaning machines. I am hopeful that I see some good reviews of the new Humminguru ultrasonic record cleaner which I would use in conjunction with this unit, as I buy a lot of used vinyl.
@DeafManVinyl
@DeafManVinyl 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do the same thing. Distilled water, 99 percent alcohol, but I use Ilford's version (Ilfutol) of fotoflow. I keep a spray bottle of distilled water with a bit more Ifutol in it if I want to give it a final wash over the sink. I am in the market for a vac system. Been buying tons of dirty collections!

Should I dry clean 1st to get the dust off before using this washer system?
@DeafManVinyl
@DeafManVinyl 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I always dry clean first. It's extra help in getting the gunk out of the grooves. PLUS it keeps your cleaning solution cleaner longer. I usually get 12-18 dirty records clean with the pre-cleaning step. It can go down to half of that if I'm just dunking filthy records. FYI: These systems are next to impossible to find right now. We've had a case back-ordered for at least 4 months now.

@DeafManVinyl
@DeafManVinyl 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ty - I was speaking specifically to folks who compulsively spritz and spray their records. There are absolutely times that records need a wet cleaning - even a bath (mold/fingerprints/super grimy and dusty). But in all cases, they should be thoroughly cleaned with a brush and pad before wet-cleaning. Then, they really shouldn't need to be wet cleaned again. Certainly not as routine maintenance before you play them. Hope that clears that up. Keep 'em spinning!

That doesn't even make sense. You add ALL the cleaning solution and it's good for 10 records or so and then buy MORE cleaning solution for another 10 or so? At $13.95 per 8 ounces (you get 16 to start and you can do the math) that is ridiculous.
@physicalmedia2689
@physicalmedia2689 Жыл бұрын
I own this and find it works really well, but I wouldn't use the included solution. Ditch it and make your own. Here's a formula that's better and much less expensive: - 320ml distilled water - 118ml 99% ISO alcohol - 30ml wetting agent (ILFOTOL/Kodak) - a couple of drops is all that's really needed This will make about 16oz which is what's needed to fill up the "trough".
