Zappa family has released a TON of outtake albums, live shows, Lather etc etc on CD or iTunes over the last few years. Bought about 30 of them in the last year or so. All great

Man, you and I would have a damn good time spinning wax and sharing stories (have plenty of my own). Great videos. Subscribed with pleasure. I worked for Ryko back in the 90s, and one of the perks was being able to complete my Zappa collection. Still have several in those old longboxes from the era.

Nice ending man. You said it perfectly. Zappa didn't change my world view but he re-enforced it for sure. We are the other people. ;o)

~I must say it again {and I will probably say it a hundred more times in the future} Your collection of albums and the knowledge that you have for them and music in general is mind blowing. I look up to you in so many ways Dereck and I am proud to be able to call you a friend. Without sounding corny, you inspire me in many ways. I still think you have a future career as a full time teacher. Thanks, Rob/Boston

Derek_ You "GET" IT!!!!! Your analysis of frank was TO THE POINT!! I agree 100% with everything you said about the Man. I also have those 3 inch cds singles. However they all got severe water damaged covers whren I had a a bathroom pipe leak seep into my music room carpet and saturated all of my lps/cds that were on the floor in storage in record crates. I still have em but theyre glued together basically except for the ones I tried to separate which just tore the covers.:(. I have just about every album/cd the man has made during his life AND his pstumously released stuff. Even all of Dweezils stuff too. (Including the 2 discs by Dweezil and Ahmets band "Z". I am miossing the last few CD releases due to a shortage of money, but hope to someday have them all. Again excellent video and Id love to correspond with you someday and talk Zappa or just music in general. Lonnie

As a young Australian ( I'm 70 this year), Weasels was the first album of Frank's I found, and bought- mainly for the cover, at first when I was a teenager- My Mum used to storm into my room " What on earth are yoi= listening to " Me: "Isn;t it great"- I saw him perform in 1973 in Sydney with George Duke and Jean-Luc Ponty, the Underwoods et al- he stopped the band with one finger wave to verbally tonguelash some idiot who let off a firecracker,turned to the band and with another wave started where they left off- I was 2nd row

Man, I had totally forgotten about those 3-inch CD's! Haven't seen any of those in a long time!! Hey, I love the "Weasels ripped My Flesh" cover so much, that it's my YT ID pic! It's SOO hard to pick favorites but, "Sheik Youbouti", "Waka/Jawaka", "Burnt Weeny Sandwich", of course "Hot Rats" are a few. I really liked what you were saying about how Zappa's music & ideals were challenging, & so on! Great stuff..... I agree a Captain Beefheart vid would be sweet......

One thing about Zappa's recordings in the 80's is he was not only early to jump on the CD bandwagon, but starting I believe in 82-83, correct me if I'm wrong, one of the first artist to digitally record his music. I think Peter Gabriel's Security LP was the first major release that was fully digitally recorded and mastered. So, if you are going for sound quality, the CD versions of the early to late 80's are your best bet. "Ship Arriving Too Late" and everything after it was recorded digitally. I have just about every LP you showed as well as 20+ of the later releases on disc. Love Zappa and the Mothers. My favorite LP by far is "One Size Fits All". You have excellent taste my friend!

Man... that is an amazing collection you have. I have been a major FZ fan for many years, and I do have several of the items you're showing here... but wow, your collection is very impressive! Like those 3" cd's in the little gatefold sleeves - those are f*n COOL! :-) Thank you so much for sharing your FZ collection, as well as your thoughts on the man himself. Amazing stories about meeting so many of the musicians too... how cool to have partied with Ray White!! :-) Excellent video, man!

I have that CD single for Zomby Woof. Those Ryko releases which were the first series of 3" singles to come out in the late 80's. I was managing Strawberries records at the time. Loved the idea, hated storing them at home. I was telling you how I voted at the Zappa show: If you look inside the Sexual Harassment CD, you will see "Don't Forget To Register To Vote". I would not trade that collection for a real poncho or a pair of Zircon-encrusted tweezers~ Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay, Rob/Boston

Waka Jawaka, The Grand Wazoo and Zoot Allures were my first Zappa albums. That, of course, was enough to get me hooked. Yes, I do like Orchestral Favorites, Sleep Dirt & Studio Tan. All great stuff. I DO think all the original MOI albums (Freak Out through Weasles Ripped My Flesh) are basically indispensable to anyone with a serious music collection!

Oh yeah, I also saw that Wild Man Fischer just passed away this past week. Can't say that I know a whole lot about the guy but, do you have a copy of his first album -- "An Evening With", which was apparently backed by the Mothers & produced by Zappa & came out on the Bizarre label?? That seems to be HARD to come by.....
@adrianlackey510710 жыл бұрын
"The Lost Episodes" is one that Dereck didn't feature. It has a "track" where a cop has come (and not for the first time) to the studio, acting on a noise complaint and Zappa left the tape machines rolling, and it caught his abuse of said cop. He did not suffer fools gladly, and had he lived long enough, I would have loved to watch him take on dogmatic religious conservative types in comment sections on youtube. So long, Frank, and thank you for *Hot Rats*...

Baby snakes late at night is when they come out baby snakes sure you know what I am talking about. How about FZ's drummer Aynsley Dunbar ? Robert Fripp, unsuccessfully tried to recruit Dunbar as King Crimson's new drummer. And oh, can you hear him loud and clear on Lou Reed's "Berlin" on the song "How do you think it feels?" OMG! No comment on the Bruce Springsteen and Frank Zappa comparison, ok, maybe a small thought: No comparison

@@dereckvon Unsure where I stand on, that. Ever hear the song "Sing", by Bernie Worrell? His lyric: "The World is a jewel, and a toilet?" might sum up my opinion. Zappa and Beefheart are things I listen to on ultra rare occasion. Are you familiar with the genre "Britfunk"? keyboardist, Paul Hardcastle? Bowie, and Hawkwind, MASSIVE fan of both, albeit it, I was late to the party with the two artists. I appreciate your putting me on to rare krautrock, thank you; do you speak German?
