You are building way more than a workshop/carport/home, you are building memories with your wife and kids. My memories of my father stop July 4th 1967 just prior to my 9th BD when he worked an extra shift and while being raised (pre-OSHA) fell 20 feet on to concrete to his death. What you did was way way safer as you at least had a lift cage. Please be safe.

Shed builders will often build out that whole gable end, including the roof overhang, siding, and soffit, while it's all on the ground. Yes, it's heavier that way and can be more challenging for one person to stand up, but saves an awful lot of awkward work later on in the process.

LOL, I saw the bobbing way Elijah lifted you up to the roof edge. I thought it looked like he was going to flip you over in that basket like you flip a flap jack in the frying pan. I got a good giggle out of that one. Made watching the rest of the video thru the tears of laughter a little difficult, but I made it to the end. Your shop is looking really good, Sam.

On many of the forklift attachments you can turn the forks upside down. If you can do that on yours, that would increase the lifting height of the man platform by about 2'. It does mean that you have to have the platform sitting 2' high to slide the forks into it. Possibly sitting on a pair of sawhorses of something else. Much safer than standing on a stepstool inside the platform. I have done similiar things, doesn't feel safe when you are doing it. Thanks for the video. The Workshop looks great

Sam, a a front end loader or fork lift with a basket is always better than a ladder. I have a SkyTrak 5030 lift with a 3'x10' basket. It has saved me untold man hours not to mention the safety aspect. The highest I've had to get is 40' and I wasn't going to do that on a ladder. I am very familiar with down boom...level platform...down boom...level platform etc. You have something you can be proud of because you take pride in your work.

Everything looking good as always.. Have you started working on the layout you're going to use inside yet? Like, where is Lasertown going to be, where the external vents are, etc? If it were me, I'd run one large inline fan up on the gables (say, a 10" inline), and split that off to multiple 6 or 4" as needed with their own inlines. Yeah, it's more fans and wiring, but only a single large exhaust. You could even put powered dampners in the lines that you can have open and close if that particular fan is currently turned on, to prevent any drafts coming in. If I ever actually move my stuff into an outbuilding from the basement, that's my plan anyway. It could be a 'home automation' project too, where you have a system set up that if X fan is on, Y dampner opens, and if NO fans are on, the primary large fan cuts off, and a larger dampner there shuts off the whole exhaust. (I LOVE playing with my home automation stuff, especially where I can just make whatever device I need with some simple ESP8266/ESP32 modules and such. And if you haven't considered it yet, I'd absolutely be putting in some sort of 3d printing setup in that new workspace (I'd suggest a Bambu P1S or X1C), as you'd be suprised just what all functional stuff you can make for your projects!

SAM!! That was so funny watching you in the work basket with your son operating it. In fast forward it look like you was getting a terrible joke done to you and hanging on for dear life.. lol! Also some “old Benny hill” music would have gone good with it in fast forward. As always good video and well made. Glad you’re accounting for safety for your work. This type videos are the ones that get people because your focused on filming and accomplishing the work and not safety. Oh it’s Almost Christmas and I know here in SC it’s cold. Tennessee is way colder and your in shorts in short sleeves. NOT!! lol

Can’t wait to see how you layout laser town at backend and the the wood shop. Do you plan on doing piped dust extraction for your woodworking tools to help keep dust under control for laser town
@Samcraftcom Жыл бұрын
I will have to do some kind of dust extraction for the woodworking tools since the lasers are very sensitive to it (along with my computers, etc). I have my DIY dust collector still in use and will continue to use it until something better comes along. I would really like a permanent setup, but am still unsure of layout to know what to get yet.

theres a saying here als het niet gaat zoals het moet dan moet het maar zoals het gaat that freely translated to english saying : if it doesnt go like it should then it should work as it goes basicly means that if you cannot do thing acording to the rules you bend the rules to get the job done as good as you can (and dont let osha see you do it) looking at the solar panels , you might be able to mount those on the roof after you have the steel layed on it , seems only a little off in terms of facing the sun but will free up some room , and you can put a battery box under the floor of the new workshop

There needs to be a 3/8" gap above the z-flashing to the bottom of the upper siding to prevent capillary action from sucking water up into the siding and letting it rot from behind.

Your children may not know it now but you are teaching a job skill whether it be new construction or home remodeling but bigger still you are able to show them how their school lessons are used in the real world: Reading and Comprehension (instructions, research), Math (read a tape measure, add/subtract and multiply fractions), Science(solar panels, electricity high/low voltage), Agriculture and Botany,(food, beauty and composting, livestock) but the most important 1 I am not sure of is HOME EC and is trivial to most human beings.
