What a coincidence ! I cleaned all my windows and greased up the spiral balances with WD-40, then white lithium grease. I had to order new balances from Swisco by measuring the length and the color on the bottom. Replaced those with no problem but could not, for the life of me, get the bottom sash back in to those dirty little shoes. You just saved me. I ran upstairs and turned them in the direction which would fit the shape of the part that goes into that shoe. Voila!. after watching many videos where folks just put them in without mentioning that part, I was at a loss. Thanks so much------My balances are all covered in some form of plastic. I really like the new ones . They look like yours -metal. Swisco will help you find the right one if you are struggling. I also bought new tilt pieces from them but they are larger than my old windows, I just had to add a new hole to accommodate the longer length of the tilt part. LOVE your empathy for that bee. You are my hero. Thank you. I had cussed up a storm from so many unsuccessful attempts at getting that dang sash back in place...... Cool extra credit for the pane replacement if needed. I have a Love/dread relationship with DIY but it much easier than I ever ever knew with folks like you who share. Proud to be your first commenter,

Thank you for the feedback @karenflowers9611! Glad I could be of help. Its comments like these that keep me posting more. I did not watch any window videos prior to this. Just formed some knowledge from a window friend 😊. I did have a window guy come and give me an estimate to replace 4 windows. He gave me an estimate and I didn’t haggle with him. He never called me back after he left that day. I also use youtube for things i cannot figure out, and have been in your position with not understanding how something works until I find that certain video! I ended up replacing one window myself and got 4 panes replaced at a local shop. I ended up saving 1000 dollars and total time spent working on my windows was around 6hrs including drive time.

@@Zacpactv I SO know the challenging learning curve involved in remodeling a home --NOW at age 65. A used to be damsel in distress ;thinking the guys "in the business" knew what they were doing. I won't go there except to say when they meet a knowledgable homeowner, I get the backwards "can't get out of your house fast enough" followed by a FU estimate. I always thanks them for that -with that exact wording. No regrets. I love being self-reliant. And I appreciate the generosity of people like you. It was really uncanny how I just "happened" upon the perfect piece of my puzzle from you. I love that we can help each other. Thanks again and YES, please keep posting! My window panes are functional and not broken. However, they are a "pain" in that the middle of the window doesn't seem to get clean. There is a space between .. not going to stress about it but I am wondering how much it costs you for replacement panes. Thanks again, K
