So you need to repair a rotted window frame? We fix a rotted window from the outside caused by water damage. The wood rot badly affected the bottom outside portion of this stationary window frame and window sill. Removing the window would involve removing all three as they formed a set and this would be a very involved process. So we opted to try to remove the rot while keeping the window in its frame. We did this by working from the outside where the wood rot was most visible.
You can find some essential tools we used for this repair on Amazon:
Titebond 2 Glue:
Titebond 5004 II Premium Wood Glue, 16-Ounces - 2 Pack
amzn.to/3h6wsSB
Dynaflex Paintable Caulk:
Dap 18275 18 Pack 10.1-Ounce Dynaflex 230 Premium Indoor/Outdoor Sealant, White
amzn.to/3U7ggiE
Window & Door Foam
Great Stuff 99108862 Smart Dispenser Window & Door, Yellow 12 Oz.
amzn.to/3fEAwcx
Table Saw:
DEWALT Table Saw for Jobsite, Compact, 8-1/4-Inch (DWE7485)
amzn.to/3Us9x2o
Oscillating Multitool
DEWALT 20V MAX* XR Oscillating Tool Kit, 3-Speed (DCS356C1)
amzn.to/3WoIvL8
Wood Filler:
Minwax 21600000 High-Performance Wood Filler, 12-Ounce Can
amzn.to/3Teu1uM
The abbreviated process is to trim away of the rotten wood and then, in layers, add wood to mimic the size and placement of wood that has been removed due to rot.
The process can be done most easily with the tools we listed above. The process can also be done with hand tools - just takes a bit more time.
Have you ever had your garage door only open part of the way and then stop? You might automatically assume your garage door opener is to blame. But not so fast. You may not want to start troubleshooting you garage door opener first. It could be you have a broken garage door spring.
A broken garage door spring can really hold you up as your garage door becomes very very heavy without a fully functioning spring helping to lift the weight of the garage door. Check out what we mean in the video. You can find replacement springs on Amazon:
Wayne Dalton Torquemaster Spring - Torquemaster Plus / 7 ft high/Between 120-129lbs - Double Spring Set
amzn.to/3szLqmC
Wayne Dalton Torquemaster Spring - Torquemaster Original / 8 ft high/Between 120-129lbs - Double Spring Set
amzn.to/3U0Akmo
The steps to replace the Wayne Dalton Torquemaster plus garage door springs are numerous and yet if carefully followed are not terribly complicated. Garage door spring replacement deserves caution: it can be very dangerous or even deadly. So when in doubt, it is best left to professionals who have experience in this work.
Hope this helps!

My home was built in 1989, the structure itself is in great condition but the appearance needs some loving. I just got quotes to replace my 16 windows for 30k… i think i will be pursuing window repairs myself. Its just the trim around the windows that have gone bad.

Hey Matt, LOl! We call that the “ I don’t want to do it price “. Quotes like that make me rethink! Buying replacement windows vs pulling off trim and siding and installing new windows is quite different. Working on a second story is a pain too. Now if it is just trim… that could really be low cost. But it’s good to check condition if framing behind the trim for water damage. Sounds like a project! Thx for watching!

So what do you do if all the wood is rotted at the bottom of the glass? I suppose wood sections could be cut and applied to both sides?
@Housebarons
@Housebarons Жыл бұрын
Hey @emmajnmerosie Yes. In the video you watched, the entire bottom was rotted. So I made a bottom piece that when inserted from the outside, went up about an 1/8 of an inch on the inside part of the window around the bottom of the glass. You may have to add multiple pieces - piece by piece, but it can work. Here is another window we did. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6G4YYaAbNyYjZI Thx for watching!

TiteBond II? It's not weatherproof. You should be using TiteBond III, which is rated to be weatherproof. I would put this repair on a 2 to 3 year maintenance cycle because the wood used was not treated with a preservative to keep it from rotting.

Hey Alex? You are correct. But in our reality, it’s just a piece of wood. It helps to have a table saw to cut it right. The board is tilted down toward outside to shed water. Thx for watching!

Does the paint protect the wood putty from rain? I thought the putty had to be caulked over w/ a paintable caulk to keep the water off the putty, then paint the caulk, yes/ no?
