Some HOAs get out of control and become rogue. Yes, rogue HOA's are out there, unfortunately. What color of car you're allowed to drive, the blinds you're allowed to have, what color of light bulbs you're allowed to use in your home, even the color of flowers you're allowed to have. I have even heard horror stories about HOA's dictating what color of clothing you're allowed to wear before you are allowed to come outside. And, even fined for having Christmas lights during December, fined for using a generator while using a vacuum cleaner, fined for playing outside, stuff like that. When HOAs get that rogue, they turn away many potential buyers and that can cause homes to sit empty for years. When HOAs get this rogue, the victim suffers PTSD, anger management issues, and I have even heard of people becoming mentally disturbed as a result of the abuse. I have a friend from high school who is a realtor and she said that she is required to disclose information about HOAs, history of abuse, and regulations that the HOA has to buyers for this exact reason.

So glad I chose NOT to live in an HOA. I don't want consistency and blandness. I want eccentricity and creativity and freedom. I lol'ed at this comment at 1:20. My neighborhood doesn't feel "lost". We all enjoy the properties we own and we don't need some Overlord telling us we can't have a pink front door or I have a bird feeder in view or my old truck has faded paint? What kind of life is that? Non HOA neighborhoods seem to have happier residents and a better sense of community instead of HOA residents bickering over lawn height or 1 dandelion.
