Though Wisconsin band, Chicago has always loved our Femmes with absolute loyalty and vice versa. My older brother took me out of elementary school this one day because he and his skater friends loved this punk band that played on the streets of Chicago near Michigan Ave. one snare drum, one acoustic upright bass and acoustic guitar. I remember that because they drew a sizable crowd. The Violent Femmes from Wisconsin. They became my fav 6th grade on band. I really wish the lads and Victor DeLorenzo could figure out their differences because we love all 3 original members. It was DeLorenzos father who fronted the money to record their first album. A $10000 loan in 1981

They have a live CD from 1989-90 I think and the musicianship on that record is off the charts.

Saw them in 1988 at the Phantasy Theater in Cleveland, little slice of heaven 9:25

Miss those days at the Phantasy Theatre…in 85 my band Radio Free America opened up for Simple Minds there….loved that venue……….that……..and the Nightclub upstairs…played there many times with my band Strange New Flesh in the late 70s and early 80s….3 piece….instrumental….all original progressive band…..I wrote all the music on bass and it was just intense playing by three young men who just wanted to be the best musicians we could be….it was just such wild times playing with that band.

Were people allowed to record? I’m not seeing many videos from these shows.
@skill1983 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. No one told me not to record, and I didn't see any signs saying I couldn't. I was sitting in the mezzanine section which is basically a balcony seat and I was in the front row of that area. I didn't really see anyone on the floor section recording during the show. There were employees who walked by and no one told me to stop recording but I also had my phone down low and was not obstructing anyone's view.

@@skill1983 cool! I haven’t been to many shows where you couldn’t but it was odd not to see many videos. Thanks for sharing!
@skill1983 Жыл бұрын
@arwen5311 , I went to see Jerry Lee Lewis in New York City, I believe 9 years ago, and they said recording wasn't allowed, but I managed to record a couple of songs. There are also some casinos that host concerts and don't allow recording. Other than that it's probably up to the band and/or venue. I've heard the band Tool does not allow fans to record at their shows and I've heard they've thrown people out for it.

I recorded most of the show in New Haven, but the most recording I saw anyone else do was just a snippet here & there. And you're right - there doesn't seem to be that many videos from this tour on YT. I think venues and acts have thrown in the towel on not recording concerts since enforcement would be nearly impossible, as they would have to prohibit the ubiquitous cell phone. In the old days, when you had to sneak in a tape recorder or video camera it was a lot easier to prohibit recording.

I was 17 and never heard of the Pogues prior to that show. They came out with a huge backing band of musicians and had people dancing in the isles and rushing the stage at the Warner Theatre in DC. Been a fan since then@@skill1983
