A creator tends to be their own harshest critic. I'm no acception. I had fun putting this together, using new sound libraries, being in a studio environment, and I'd never ever put out anything that I know wasn't my best, or something you guys wouldn't enjoy in some way. That being said, this arrangement is personally not my favorite of my recent uploads. Not alot was done to stray from the original, aspects of the solo instruments simply can't replicate the real thing, and overall it's still missing something. A creative direction that usually guides how i compose. Violet evergarden's music is phenomenal. It's also orchestral, and real. As hard as I may try, I'd be a fool to think I could ever beat that. To try to make something grand out of something that's already pretty great. If you destroyed a statue and try to build a new one out of the rubble, sure it'll be nice if you try hard enough, but it'll probably be smaller. It's why I try to avoid doing orchestral arrangements of... well orchestras. Someone in the comment section gave this a B- . Well I give my efforts this time a C maybe a D. Regardless, this doesn't mean I won't try to cover orchestra stuff. Your Lie in April is extremely flexible, and I have tons of ideas for that. Moments when I falter, or when I think I could have done better are the times I'm pushed to improve and keep going, to try new things and engage with different styles. To collaborate with others and build connections with the audience that I've built. I can do better. I will do better. And if I don't? Feel free to kick some sense into me.

It sounds as good as it is. Perhaps it's the original song that had that "something" missing. And you only discovered it when you already finished your job. Just to know, your orchestration is amazing.

Reading your pinned comment: you are 100% correct. You have listened to this pretty much over 1000 times to make sure everything about it is perfect, the reverb, each note, each stroke of the strings, spacing, arrangement etc. Most people only listen to songs a dozen times or a bit more than that. But in those dozen times, they are able to experience the culmination of days and weeks of work within minutes. If there was a downside to being a composer, it's not being able to listen to your song for the very first time. The unpredictability, the tension and calm. That's why with every new song, you improve. Art is like that sometimes. Some say it's 'sharing' your emotions and feelings to others, but it's more like 'giving'. You make others experience what you cannot. tldr this song was pretty dope
@jamalsachleben30265 жыл бұрын
"Some say it's 'sharing' your emotions and feelings to others, but it's more like 'giving'. You make others experience what you cannot. " I find that line even more interesting when you think about it in the context of the show and character of Violet Evergarden.

I am a man who is super eaaily affected by my surroundings. I have a bit of a depression probelm and was having a quite hard time going through finals period. However hearing your music and orchestrations gave me... how to put it, a kind of an emotional boost. I literally cried the whole time through this piece. Not that it was super sad or anything, it felt as if someone was patting me on the back, giving me a hug, and saying that everything's gonna be fine, that I'm doing great, and no matter what I do, they'll give me support. And if you are reading, this comment, although I might be across the whole damn globe from you, have a good day, a week, and the rest of a damn happy life. Thanks Garcia, for giving me the smile that I desperately needed.

Reading your pinned post: I get it. I look at my art and ask myself “Holy hell do I even have thumbs” all the time, and sometimes feel worse when I look at the pros. But then I look farther down the road, at the past 5 years worth of “art” I created and then I realize how far I’ve come. For me, I enjoy digital art, I love it. But I’m driven by the idea that, one day, I will create something that is impressive, it’s the idea of self-improvement that artists chase after. So don’t tell yourself: “I’ll never reach the pros”. Instead start saying: “I’ll get there one day. Let’s take a crack at this one more time.” Work for something that you're proud of. Something that you did, just for you. Absolutely love your work, and you’ll always have my support, keep at it Mr Garcia.

When I finished watching Violet Evergarden on Netflix I thought it was a good series. It didn't make me cry. There was a time near the end of the series when my eyes got wet, but no actual tears. Then after listening to the OST by itself (I bought an imported CD because it was that good) I realized how much the music affected me. Thank you Rush Garcia for making this and thank you Sideways for teaching me this is the power of music.

Rush, don't kick yourself too hard. Violet Evergarden is one of a kind and the music itself is too phenomenal to be recreated and replicated, it's simply a masterpiece of its own. You did a great job recreating the atmosphere and emotions that the anime wanted the audience to experience. You may think your effort here was a C but to those who's never heard of this, they might get caught emotionally by the beauty of this orchestral masterpiece and rate it an A. You might not have done your best, but you for sure have caught everyone by what the original composers initially intended it to, and I think that's enough to give yourself some credit.

Okay yeah my notifications aren't working for your channel, otherwise I wouldn't have missed THIS. There are few soundtracks that consistently bring me to tears, but this, combined with the scenes from the show the music and typewriter clicks bring to mind, that's guaranteed to make me cry.
