I actually learned a new trick, enclosing the bodice seam in that manner ....neat idea!

Definitely do two rows of gathering stitches! I like to do one gathering stitch inside the seam allowance and one outside (so one at 1/4” and one at 3/4”). That stabilizes the gatherers on both sides of the stitch line and prevents any shifting.

That dress is adorable. Thank you for posting. I can see the bodice section made as big as you want it. Make an adult dress too. Hardly any time.

Thank you for this. I had sewing lessons at school 40 years ago. I have down loaded your free pattern from your website and I'm a bit nervous about making this. But, its such a lovely pattern and your tutorial has all the details. I'll be playing and pausing ALOT. I'm sure if I remain calm and focussed I'll make two wearable garments. Thank you again. X

When I made my first London dress, I did the same thing...playing and pausing the tutorial a lot, but after I had made a couple, I was breezing through the dress. Such a confidence building project for anyone wanting to get their sewing mojo back.

I have sewn off and on for 20 years and I love this tutorial! Nice job! You confirmed that this girl has been doing it right all these years! I laugh every time I see that rack fall down because that is how my day usually goes. I have not tried a pattern yet. I am new to PDF patterns. I am a bit nervous about trying it. I may try this free one for my 9 month old granddaughter. I love the look of the London. I would also like an easy fall pattern to try for her.

Great tutorial! A little more detail on the application of bias tape would be great. Maybe just some pictures of the steps. Gorgeous fabrics and a darling dress!
@leeannafitzgerel87405 жыл бұрын
My favorite way to gather is to zigzag over top of a piece of carpet thread. Simply pull the carpet thread to the desired length. To hold each end in place as you pull, insert a straight pin, then do a figure 8 with the carpet thread a few times around the pin. It only moves when you want it to. This has helped me so many times.
@TaDarling1 Жыл бұрын
I've heard of that idea of using the zigzag stitch for gathering but instead of carpet thread, unwaxed dental floss.
