Mr. Harrell, I believe you are now on The Other Side, but hope you can perceive this and know my appreciation for your wonderful musicianship. I heard you in a concert performance only once, when you played the Dvorak with the Santa Fe Symphony circa 1982. It was a good regional orchestra but not quite up to your level ... however as I recall that long-ago concert, you inspired the orchestra to exceed itself!

I didn't realize he had passed. I especially remember listening to his Bach cello suites and his Beethoven Archduke trio and Schubert trios with Perlman and Ashkenazy.

Each string communicates and together the sound enriches one's being. Maestro Szell creates enchantment and Strauss provides the pixie dust.

Lynn: can you comment on measure 457 in the first cello part and why no one then figured out that this is supposed to be in tenor clef?!? It was wrong at some point in the part (but I believe always correct in the score, as it is now). It is glorious starting on the high Eb, and weird at best in bass clef starting on Ab.
