Hey everyone! I uploaded a bunch of new videos this past year, check them out if you like!

Please tell, if you de-tune your violin when you don't use it I have heard that the violin would bend if stressed too much (mostly when not used and kept in the case)
@MakeLoveWithMusic4 жыл бұрын
@@angeloxavier8325 I can understand why some people would think that, but I have NEVER done that in my 20 years of playing the violin. De-tuning would actually make the strings break faster. I always keep my violin in tune when i put it away, but i do loosen my bow.

Got my 8 year old son a violin a little more than a year ago, he hasn't been too interested in learning until now. Found your videos on here last night and he has been practicing Twinkle Twinkle since. He is begining to show real interest in learning more, and TTLS is sounding more and more like a song lol. Thank you for your time to post videos, keep 'em coming! Also, in respect to your filming... If you put a light on yourself from behind the camera it will help when you are doing close-ups on fingers, finger board, strings, etc. In addition, when you use auto focus make movements slower and smaller so that the camera can focus more clearly. Thanks again and keep up the great work!!!

Hi Dillon. How's it going? This video is 6 years old so I was wondering how you're doing? Did college go well? Graduate with honors? Where are you now? Working in the industry? I see you've grown your channel quite well. Kudos! I hope 2018 rewards you with everything you deserve.

I just bought a violin yesterday, and I'm already doing great with it, speeding through the book I got. Just to make sure I'm doing everything right, I came to KZbin and happened to find your channel. So far all of the videos I've seen have been extremely helpful. I've played the flute for 13 years, so I do already have the benefit of being able to read music. Thanks for posting these videos I'm sure a lot of people find them super helpful.

i would definitely plan on learning on an acoustic classical violin. if you ever want to play in a band and need to be heard over the other instruments, definitely get an electric or buy a pickup to install on your acoustic, so you get the best of both worlds! hope this helped!

I really like your videos! They make me feel encouraged about learning violin. I've been practicing twinkle twinkle little star for 3 days. I think I sound better, but my cat won't hang out with me when he sees the violin case open up! I was just noticing how dusty the violin gets after I play, I'm so glad you uploaded this video! I didn't know how to clean it but now I understand. So excited to watch the next video!

If you are over the height of 5 feet, you will want a 4/4 or "full" size violin. The other sizes are usually for small and younger children.

Hi Dillon, I found out about the rosin build up on the strings by myself. It wasn't sounding right and screeching, so I rubbed it off with a soft t-shirt. Thanks for the proper violin maintenance video! I really need to know how to take care of my dad's violin. It's an antique and stays in tune most of the time. I just need to make a small adjustment now and then.

Your rosin would last a LOT longer if you rotate it while you rub it on the bow. That's one of the best features of having a round rosin cake. I've never seen someone just wear a deep track down the middle unless it's on one of those little rectangular ones. You can also completely clean and degrease the bow hair. I've seen tutorials on KZbin that show how to do it, but you basically just take the frog off, and then wash the hair in I think denatured alcohol or acetone (check). After it's all clean, you rinse it, pat it dry, and reattach the frog. Some people do this when they want to clean off excess rosin, or because they want to switch to a different rosin. Worth trying, especially if you're already thinking about getting it re-haired. I would not refinish a spot like that on a violin either. It adds to the character, unless of course the varnish is getting gummy and gross from skin oils. Then I'd get it touched-up rather than refinished.

I had this question ever since I got my 🎻 why do you need the rozen?
@abandonedaccount18226 жыл бұрын
its used to make it sound good
@TheChickwithguns5 жыл бұрын
Tawni Clark the rosin makes the microscopic scales on each hair stand up. Yes, all hair has scales. When those scales are lying flat, they don’t grip the strings. Therefore, you won’t get any sound. Rosin makes those hairs grip the strings and the grip and release of each tiny scale causes vibration. Hope that helps.

Can you show how to tie the bandanna on the violin?

sooooo, how do you replace strings and re-hair the bow???
@sooth158 жыл бұрын
Changing strings is pretty simple (see other KZbin videos on this) but re-hairing a bow is a job for a specialist.

what is the size of your violin - 4/4 or smaller; I've got one but its only 22" long? not big enough? I don't think I can use it to practice to learn to play.
@jennyswad12695 жыл бұрын
Never rub the rosin like that on the bow. Use full length strokes on the bow. Check out other websites to find out why.

@TheChickwithguns5 жыл бұрын
Chubbypugs The sound is definitely different between a 200 dollar violin and a 1,000 dollar violin. I also think even as a beginner it’s better to get good strings. Strings that are rubbish can make a beginner sound worse than necessary.

Hi Dillan, I am new to your channel. Hope I have the right spelling to your name (my apologies if I don’t). I wanted to reach out to you about your video - you had mentioned your violin cost $1,200. For a beginner, what price range do you recommend one spend?
@MakeLoveWithMusic4 жыл бұрын
No worries at all about the name spelling :) It is actually spelled Dylan! Any good beginner violin would range between $200-$800, the $1200 mark is more for intermediate/advanced players. But honestly it is not about the price, it is about the connection you feel with the instrument when playing it. When I wanted a new instrument, I had a company mail me 3 different violins to try. I ended up going with the the cheapest one because it had the sound i liked best :)
@TheChickwithguns5 жыл бұрын
You might want to preface rehairing with something about the value of your bow against the cost of rehairing. If the beginner has a 30 dollar bow, rehairing will cost more than replacing the bow. It only makes sense to rehair if your bow is rather expensive...at least 80 dollars.
