Anna Lea-may I ask a technical question? I noticed at 0:10 that you appear to play the slur from D to B as a hooked bow. I really like how it sounds, but it is not notated as such in the Suzuki edition I have (there it is just a slur). If true, I am curious if this was something intentionally changed, or if this is a missing notation in the book. Either way I believe it sounds better as you play it. 🙂
@violingardenacademy
@violingardenacademy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes, of course you can ask technical question:-) I see what you mean, it looks like a hooked bow, but if you listen very carefully, you will hear that I don't stop in between the notes which one does for hooked bowing, as in this case it is written slurred. I simply distribute the bow to get much bow for the D and little bow for the B, and also slow down the bowing on the B, to get more sound on the D, as that is the downbeat. A Bourrée is a form of dance, and so this helps the listener (or dancer) to know when the down beat comes. I hopes this clarifies your question:-) And all the best for your practice!
@MiserableLittleDoomGoblin
@MiserableLittleDoomGoblin 3 жыл бұрын
@@violingardenacademy thank you for the clarification! That makes sense to accent the down beat for the dance. Looking more closely at the video at a slower speed, I can see that I was in error. Would you recommend counting "1-2-1-2" while playing to get more sound on the 1 and the 3 of each measure? Thank you for taking the time to respond!

@violingardenacademy
@violingardenacademy 8 ай бұрын
I recommend practicing with the slow video first (you can find videos of all pieces in slow practice tempo currently until book 5 in the playlist section on this channel). When you play along with the slow version, you can pay attention to the bow distribution, where do I play each note. A common problem is that the bow is not drawn straight, or using too much bow, too much pressure or playing too close to the bridge. All of the above will result in scratching, hissing or interreupted sounds. I hope this is helpful to you, and wish you all the very best for your practice!🎻☀️🦋

Oh dear, dont despair! Everyone experiences the difficulty of this instrument, but thats what makes it so worth while! The most important lesson is to practice slowly. That way, you can pay attention to the details. Is your posture good? Are you holding the bow correctly? Is the left hand in the right place etc? You can also watch and play along with this piece (and all other Suzuki pieces) in SLOW practice tempo (you can find it on my channel). There you can copy the exact bow scheme that your teacher wants you to learn. You can learn this and anything you want, just keep practicing! 😊🎻🦋

@@elguerrero363 as a music education major who has figured out what chords go with the melody so I can accompany my violin student on the guitar rather than try to hire a pianist (I absolutely suck at piano), I can assure you it's a lot more than just random notes. The chord progression is absolutely genius (albeit quite difficult for my current skill level). Handel is quite known for his incredibly complex chord progressions, and this piece is but one of many examples of that. I'm not entirely sure if Handel or Suzuki wrote in the dynamics, but regardless they fit perfectly. A bunch of random notes strung together wouldn't sound like this; it would sound like a toddler fiddling around on the piano without a clue of what they're doing. There would be no logical chord progression, likely no way to even begin to tell what key it's supposed to be in, and creating an accompaniment for it would be an absolute nightmare for even the most advanced of musicians. Yet I, a relatively inexperienced musician when it comes to the vast majority of my peers, was able to figure out a guitar accompaniment for it, with no access to the piano accompaniment book, just by looking at the melody and humming along while I play chords that make sense. There are a total of nine chords within this piece: G, C, D7, Bm, F#7, D, Em, A7, and B7. As a comparison, most music that's written nowadays only has between 2 and 4 chords
