Zehetmair is more faithful to the style for sure and captures much more contrast between the variations. Hahn for me is the true modern heir to the mid-20th century "golden age" violin playing, so if you're looking for an interpretation that puts "lush sound" first, she's it.

To me it feels meditative, and iirc she plays Bach daily to warm up, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was like a meditation for her.

This isn’t the tempo she plays throughout the piece. I’ve seen her play Chaconne in person very recently and this is only the first time the main theme is introduced at the beginning of the piece. Every time the main theme reappears, it has gone through an evolution from the sections in between. Hilary Hahns interpretation is more about the evolution and growth of the musical idea throughout the parts of the music.

i feel like thomas gets the actual sound and emotion thats supposed to come from playing this piece, but i much prefer hilary's interpretation. its a lot more fuller and articulated, and you can tell she puts a lot of emotion into it as she plays.
