I am a 77 year old just starting to learn the Violin up to lockdown I was learning the Alto Sax so have four years music reading. My problem with my first music lesson, is the shoulder rest does not give me support of my violin and drops down. So looking at the Kun demonstration may be the best demo I have seen. The various positions of the shoulder rest may well be what I need. There is no way that I can hold the violin with chin rest, next week I see my music teacher who want's me to hold on before buying a shoulder rest. To be able to purchase a shoulder rest with plenty of adjustments is a must for me. Again thank you for posting this demo it's very well shown.

Thank you for explaining the relationship between different heights and angles and how it affects the violins placement. Very helpful.

Thank you so much for this. I have watched a ton of videos and no one, no one has taken the time to explain the shoulder rest like this. It is extremely helpful...when I bought my violin I had no idea how to put it on correctly, and now I see there are more options than just "Getting it on". thank you!!!

Thank you … I’ve been cursing for a month and having trouble holding my violin. I said the KUN was useless, now that you have shown me how to properly use the device, things are great.

I would GREATLY appreciate seeing a still photo/ image of exactly how the length of the violin should appear as one looks towards the scroll. IOW, at what angle to one's line of sight towards the scroll - how should one see the strings? Thank you!

Your fingerboard and left hand position will be slightly to the left of dead center👍🎻📚

Thank you so much for making this video! I am a adult in her 30s who recently decided to pick up her violin again after a decade of acceptance. I bought the original Kun shoulder rest based on your recommendation and it does make a sufficient difference on the neck length and shoulder width. I started with no shoulder rest as a kid 6th grade through 12th grade, but that does not mean you should keep playing without one even as you get older in adulthood. Something to consider if you are experiencing tension and discomfort while playing.

Just what I was looking for. Thanks for the demonstration and going straight to the point. I felt like I should know this by now having played for a while in high school , then a long hiatus before picking it up again as an adult, and thought it was a silly question to ask my instructor.

Hi Amber, I am thinking of changing my Wolf rest for the Kun Original so this is very helpful. I've been watching your channel for a year now and it's really helped on my new violin journey. I have a much deeper understanding of music now, thanks to you! Your natural personality is so refreshing and helps us to feel connected, thanks again. Sending love and hugs from England 🇬🇧 😊

Thanks. I'm an adult beginner-intermediate who has always hated the way my violin feels on my jaw and shoulder, not sustainable. My teacher nvr addressed this and I'm finally in need of a solution. Thanks for the video, hope this helps me. 😞

I am trying out a more extreme slant in position 3 where the top side is almost at the furthest possible end. Wonder if anyone also finds that the most comfortable?

Thank you. I have to put my shoulder rest all the way to the centre of the violin just before the spikes for it to feel comfortable.

Me too and I use position 3 in her video, so my rest is really at a slant. Do you do that too?
@wintersprite2 жыл бұрын
Although I have a different rest, this video is helpful as I usually have my rest lower on the “G” side and higher on the “E” side. Sometimes I try it more straight but have a harder time playing that way.

Love your videos. I'm a beginner violist. Can you maybe do a video on string spacing and string height. I got a Teller fitted bridge from Fiddlershop and it really improved the playability of my viola. It has a wider string spacing so it put my C string closer to the edge of the fingerboard which let's my finger drop in a better place. It also lowered my string action a little. Thanks!!

Thank you so much for wonderful information, I am a beginner, I was wondering if I need to attach shoulder rest all the time to voilin or remove it after playing , could you please help
@Aranur2 жыл бұрын
It’s recommended that you remove the chin rest after each practice session because it might start putting undo pressure on the wood and the violin

I am okay, and will be moving soon away soon, I will email you for the lesson plan soon. I have not forgotten you. You look beautiful always and sound great. What a holiday blessing to see you and your video on shoulder rest Dec. 17th 2022 Saturday. Be well and happy holidays. Ella🧸🎻☕🌹☃️🎂

I'll probably need to retest Kun and take into account longer legs. My bonn musica sometimes slips when I put a bit too pressure. 🤔 Interesting to see how it lands on your collar bone. That's helpful to see + violin hand position and how it's aligned.

Another way to to help with the leg height is to do a chest workout.

The problem is that this video is filmed in reverse. When you say left, it is the viewer's right. That makes all of your instructions incorrect.
Sorry but this video really doesn’t help me understand how to put on my shoulder rest
@liamnevilleviolist18094 ай бұрын
It's hard to pronounce "Kun" properly without offending somebody.... If you say "Koon" then you're insulting indigenous Australian people, the natives and the true owners of this land. If you say "Cuhn" then it really sounds like THAT offensive word, the (English-speaking) world over... Please try to say it/ "KUN" like you would the word: "WOOD". Thanks.
@liamnevilleviolist18094 ай бұрын
Apologies if this bluntly-written comment sounded like: 'a demand'.... I just wanted to point out that each country is different and perhaps a certain pronunciation [of KUN] in this video caused offence to a friend of mine who was in the room as I was watching this instructional video.
