I think they need to add a time before the spycam makes noise, like if cypher can see you for 2 seconds it should then alert the enemy instead of it being instant so there is still some counterplay but it rewards good spycam placement/usage

I think it's effectively just going to 'blink', so if you're in it for longer than a second it makes the shutter sound again anyway, same as popping in and out of it would.

They've definitely changed the wrong parts about viper, because her whole orb moving mechanic is really important to scale up as a team Plus if you fuck up the smoke you've just fucking fumbled your whole kit

@@ceoflippers I honestly want them to heavy nerf if not outright kill the decay you get running through it because you get a huge disadvantage when running through it and you have to take a gunfight, and almost all the controllers get to place their smokes on the fly if you conserve your util right, so having to hit the other site after you preplace everything is downright impossible (in the context of solo controller)

I made little mistake, from October 1 they had viper, Sunset: 7/10, Lotus 0, Breeze and Icebox 100%, Ascent 5/7, Split 100%, Bind 0, so they used it most of the times on every map except Lotus and Bind

@@beckettschuchts4275 no. because Jetts nerfs take out the cheese but keep a lot of skill involved. This just gutts the character. If you want to compare it to jett, imagine if Jett knives have a timer and dont last the whole round. That is what this feels like. Its just not good changes. one less ability, but its also made more expensive, a smoker who cant smoke and you cant pick up q if they dont push your site or if you accidentally misthrow, or want to pick it up a few times to play around it.. one or two small nerfs would be fine but all of this together just kills her.

@@bluefiremarkii the core concept of what makes viper good is still there, theres just not the complete dominance of every category like before. her wall is still really good and it still decays and the smoke is still the best single smoke in the game when places. and the molly gives you 6.5 seconds of spike stall. all of the core aspects of what made viper versatile and good are still there. they didnt change anything fundemental.

@@bluefiremarkii also if you accidentaly miss any of the smokes for any of the smokers you lose the smoke. if someone doesnt push omens site hes screwed for most of the round. its like when they nerfed the jett dash and everyone thought it was gonna kill her but it just made her less op. the character stayed the same. also the jett knives arent even that important to her kitt, what youre describing is like if they got rid of the dash completely.

Breeze should just get removed to be honest lmao. You need 2 Sentinels and Harbor or like Viper+Omen/Astra+Cypher because Viper isn't remotely the anchoring beast she used to be. And who the fuck knows who the second sentinel will be, maybe Chamber and we see a full transition from Jett to Yoru in the duelist role. This also just means we're stuck with solo initiator, which is Sova. Ranked on Breeze is going to be miserable with always having a Reyna + another duelist

I don’t play Viper, but her nerfs will definitely make the next tournament an absolute fustercluck. If teams can’t figure out their comps in time for Stage 2 we’ll be in the dark ages of pro team comps. I can see it being both hilarious and painful to watch. Also, Cypher nerfs 😔 he did nothing wrong

I main Viper and play a lot of double controller with my duo so this is rough but for the viewing experience, probably the best change they could have made. I do hope that if this kills Viper in SoloQ (which I suspect it will, outside of Icebox/Breeze since people seem allergic to picking up Harbor), we'll at least get to see some more non-pro play focused changes to Viper post-champs.

i agree that the cam change is a bit over the top, they should've just kept it at the tripwire changes. and for viper i would like to see them revert the incoming snakebite change, cuz those were fine, and just finetune the fuel, because for viper it also feels a bit over the top, and breeze and icebox will probs go to a double smoker meta, seeing as 12 sec smoke is way to low to get the bomb down

You mention the timing is shit for the patch changes; my question is, is there even a good time for changes like these? (Besides the obvious of after Champs). Viper has been the most picked hero of all time for this past few months, and I think patching that sooner rather than later is a good thing, hoping the game and meta will settle in a better place by Champs is a decent hope. (Also hoping this is the last major balance change until after Champs is over; doing one right before it would be horrific)

Honestly it's the best timing. You can't just wait like 7 months of the season to make big changes, 32/44 of franchise teams get a whole month to workshop, and Shanghai is the less impactful long term then split 2, so Shanghai teams can afford to be more experimental during the event. That def beats the game being static a whole season

This sentiment is weird. They try to stray away from Viper, I agree. But they definitely one of the teams that used Viper the most (especially last year). Before they changed their Ascent comp, they were one of the only teams that used Viper on Ascent. I'm pretty certain that they have a new Split comp for Stage 1, but we haven't seen them playing Split after Madrid. If there is one thing for certain, PRX clearly avoid using double duelist comp from now.

The thing with Viper for me is that I think they just made her way more static than she already is right now and I belive that I dont like that. In double controller comps Viper mostly is there to path the way onto site and then the main controller does their thing. But aside from Icebox or Breeze Viper isnt really playable as a single controller that can do it all. And on those two maps its because of their special design on sites. Imo every controller should be flexible enough to be useful as a single controller on every map to certain extend. So my idea for a rework would actually rather focus on the repositioning of the abilities (e.g. taking back the orb like a cypher cam (the wall still should be static though)) and limit/nerf the activation rates of the orb and the wall. With what I have in mind Viper would become a bit more similar in her playstyle to the other controllers, but I dont know if riot even wants that or rather keep her in that type of static controller/sentinal hybrid state. The snake bite nerf is very good though

The snakebite nerf makes no sense to me. They already nerfed it so it does way less damage, and it’s not nearly as much of a risk as any other molly. Like this is the only molly you can confidently walk through or stand in for a considerable time. I mean just look at brims molly, who’s also a controller. You ain’t touching that shit cause you will most certainly die. I also hate the now static part about her. Controllers are supposed to be able to support the rest of the team by smoking, that’s their role. If you make all of her util static, then she can’t remove anywhere if say you try to go to a site but you get shut down so you have to rotate. Like now she’s virtually impossible to play well, especially not as a solo controller. Which is fucking stupid, because you should only need a single controller, especially with the changing meta.

As a Viper main this came totally surprising after the last (and already painful) nerf of the last patch. I don't know what to think about it yet but for the attacker side most of my post plant lineups are pointless now because for one molly that is only active for only one second longer it means that it will be difficult to get back in time when the enemies defuse after the effect ist over. Also on the defender side it was always a good way to slow down enemy pushes or make them very costly. For me this is the most painful change. In low elo the short uptime of your smokes will be disastrous because random players in these lobby tend to camp in main for the first half of the smoke before pushing so once they arrive on site the smoke effect will be gone. And the orb can't be picked up anymore? This is really the cherry on the top. So unnecessary! As if picking it up again was so overpowered in the first place. Riot really tries to kill a S tier agent here that has shaped the meta for a very long time.

i agree with the nerfs on viper altough the fuel nerf imo a bit over the top, purely because she has no competition, and the chyper nerfs a bit over the top imo, u wouldnt change the cam. besides i would like to see riot implement the nerf/ buff strategy of: if an op character has to much pickrate in comparison to their competion, either nerf the op character a bit and buff the competion, think omen vs astra, or just buff the competion so both agents remain fun to play, but they arent op in comparison to every other character regardless of role. and if an op character has no competion, just nerf the character, or introduce a character that actually competes with the op character, so as an example if astra didnt exist and omen had a way to high pickrate you either introduce astra as direct competion to omen, or you nerf omen. but dont think like oh harbor has line smokes and viper has line smokes so they will compete, this is a false statment, because they fulfill very different roles in a team comp

As a Viper main,this is depressing, 1 molly, 1 smoke and 1 wall, imagin rotating you cant pick up wall or the smoke, (lets jsut say you have not used the molly yet), and you get plant down you only have 1 molly so you cant clear angles and just have to play time (with no other util basically have to have better aim then the other players ), and defending side of viper should be stronger which since she is a controller but is not, put your wall down, orb down , and molly beacuse the other team is hard pushing but they end up rotating, now viper has no more util, its worse for maps like bind where you can just tp from one site to another. This is like the chamber nerf but atleast with chamber you could TP from hard situations (Chamber has movement), but viper does not have this movement and is a smoke based agent, also she is worse then chamber now because atleast chamber has a sheriff and a op using his util. Sad to say but VIPER IS NOW USELESS. Other viper mains will know how hard that was to say as we put so much effort in mastering her unique kit but now its pointless, all the lineups, the 1 ways and timing is all gone, theres nothing left to do 😭.

literally every smoker can move their smokes now. Brim is the closest exception but he has 3 charges. without picking up orb or wall, she's now useless if you rotate. If she defends A and you go B, she only has ONE ability she can use to retake. thats insanely dumb for a controller. Omen can paranoia, tp, smoke. Brim can molly, smoke, stim beacon. Clove can heal herself, and decay them.. ETC. or if viper is attacking, she sets up on one site, and cant anymore when you rotate. Oh, want to take an ult point and use your smoke orb as cover? well too bad you can't pick it up anymore. like wtf, i loved used q and picking it back up for temporary cover. It wasn't anything broken, it was fun and created a lot of skill expression. Now viper is useless.

As a Viper main who always plays Harbor on Lotus (he is the better choice on this map because he can easily block 4 angles with his main ability) I highly doubt that. For me it seems like maps like pearl (for Fade) or Lotus (For Harbor) or Sunset (For Clove) were designed for the strengths of these agents while on other maps they simply don't really fit in.
