How did I know there would be ignorant people on here clIming abuse, this is exercise for the dogs. The abuse is on those who have the over wheight animals who dont get have the exercise this dogs get. Get a life and for the one who posted the video keep rolling.

Our sighthounds used to get a lot of exercise [non pulling though] and their hearts were strong and steady. I offered to take a neighbour's overweight [very] dog out for a slow walk, but after 5 minutes he was drooling ropes of saliva and panting hard, poor dog. He was a golden retriever, walking down the road with a dog so distressed by no more than a 5 min walk was worrying. I let him rest, then walked him back at a funereal pace..he was massively obese. His owners just never took him out, beyond a walk lasting a minute or so. He had a back like a coffee table.. so huge. He was fed boiled hearts and other rich food..he died aged seven. The owners then got a toy dog whom thankfully was more suited to their sedentary lifestyle.

The best thing you can give a dog is a job. This is just one way..Anyone who knows dogs will be smiling at what these dogs are doing. They are happy, they are working, and they are with their owner... How cool is that?... If you have a welfare issue about how you feel, how dogs' should feel. Please adopt them all, but i am telling you that a dog with an owner and a job, is an amazing animal... Cheers

I had a lab as a kid. I'd strap his harness to my big wheel and let him pull me. He'd take me on the exact same route every time through the neighborhood then return home. He was always excited and ready to go every day

I think it's a great *tool* for having fun and exercise your dogs! And the dogs doesn't need to know direction comands, because you can push him in the direction you want to go. Of course it's better to train him though! Just keep in mind to warm up and cool down the dogs and not over-exercise them! greets

Weird how you don't see too much criticism on mushing but when it comes to draft dogs you seem to see much more hate. This was fun to watch, they look so excited and happy. Good job, you're an amazing owner and driver!!!

Everyone says they are pushing the dogs to hard, lets face it if a dog doesn't want to do something it wont. If the dog was to tired it would stop. They are worked up to this and pushed to go a bit faster or a bit further each time.
@turkeyburglarjones61489 жыл бұрын
+Jennifer's Miniatures I want to know where shit like this started. "If an animal doesn't want to do something it won't!!"
@Oscardingo20119 жыл бұрын
what are you talking about? Shit like what? you mean like knowledge to know that if a dog really doesn't want to do something it simply wont do it. It comes from years of experience training dogs. Guessing people who think otherwise aren't aware dogs have a brain and choose to do what they want.
@turkeyburglarjones61489 жыл бұрын
Jennifer's Miniatures Right, so dogs trained with prong/shock collars (positive punishment in general) really want to be doing everything they're asked? Trust me, I know dogs have a brain. I'm a dog behaviorist. I've literally been to college for it.
@Oscardingo20119 жыл бұрын
TurkeyBurglar Jones No they aren't going to want to do nor are they going to do everything they are asked. It's part of the fact that dogs do not do everything they are told to because they only do what they actually want to do. I took and passed animal behavior classes in college. So maybe you need to re-take the classes. Obviously you went when they were teaching out dated crap. How many times are you going to ask in different ways the exact same question? I'm done answering it obviously you don't understand anything about dogs. Or you just choose to be ignorant.
@turkeyburglarjones61489 жыл бұрын
No, I obviously didn't go that long ago. When did I say dogs couldn't refuse to do what they don't wan to do something?? I simply said they can easily be forced to do things they don't want to do if the consequences are bad enough. JUST BECAUSE A DOG DOES SOMETHING IT DOESN'T MEAN IT WANTS TO DO IT. Just so we're clear, I'm talking in specifics of training. On their own of course, they can choose. Yes, with they way a lot of dogs are trained now (force-free) it's hard (and undesirable) to force a dog a to do something it doesn't want to do. But I dare you to go see how dogs with aversive are trained, do they look happy to you? Do they look like they want to be doing everything? Taking some general animal behavior class is not the same level as what I went for, and you're proving. I went to college FOR dog behavior, to have it as a career, you taking a few classes for fun doesn't outweigh the amount of what I learned. I'm going to say it as many times as it takes to get it through your thick skull. With your grammar, I don't feel like retained much from school anyways.

TY for showing us what an AUSSIE is capable of...being involved with Facebook groups and all the people who own full, mini or toy Aussies. When I ask about exercising, like myself, walking our on leash for maybe 1 -2 miles is a lot but after watching this, I now think maybe they "suckered" me into thinking that's all they needed...I just subscribed so I can watch "real athletes".

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!! Wow you really have your dogs trained well i am impressed! I enjoyed watching the entire clip and now i'm interested in getting involved in this wonderful sport to help keep my dogs in good physical condition! One of my dogs is a boxer and he's only a year and some months old *he's the baby* and i feel so horrible on walks because he wants to go faster but a person can only power walk for so far so long! I usually tire out WAYYY before him and he usually is left with TONS of energy even after a hour walk and a half an hour of "off leash" time at the park...even my other dogs (granted older) than him tire out and settle down. He is simply insatiable with his energy requirements...but now....i got something for his little ass....Mwhahahahah..... I have 4 dogs that i would like to try this out on, all ranging from small to large, can't wait to get them use to this; i believe they would enjoy it very much! A 4 dog urban sledding team sounds like hella fun!

It's cute yes, and they don't seem to dislike it, Aussie's are bred to work for and please their owner they aren't lazy dogs! judging from the size of my aussie, IDK if I would want even half my weight on her body, plus the carts weight.. but she's on the smaller side. Who are we to pass judgement?
@plantsbatsandcats6 жыл бұрын
Shanon Dur the cart is taking pretty much all the weight as well. It’s not any different than pushing a shopping cart really, they just give the cart momentum and then once it’s moving it doesn’t take that much to keep it moving. Simple physics.

This breed doesn't have the lung capacity/duration for this type of sport....Their backs and hips will also have problems. Their hips splay out at 5degress which is not sufficient for pulling. If you look at a sled dog from behind and compare it to an Aussie you will see what I'm talking about....also Aussie hind legs from the knee up to the hip sits under the dog as compared to a sled dog which makes pulling uncomfortable as the hip flexors are not being allowed to flex completely before they start their forward rotation...as you can see with a sled dog that runs with its rear end held high....These dogs will have many joint /tendon/ligament issues, even their paws/toes/ joints are not made for this ....I have run dogs for 50 years and I know what breeds can pull and what breeds shouldn't....
@bear02201311 жыл бұрын
I think it is excellent if you are crippled,as I am,so you cannot give your dog the exercise...he so terribly needs. I lost my constant companion,LOGAN....my German Shepherd Dog of 10 years and life without him is zero. But,if you are healthy and can walk THEN this is a LAZY MAN who abuses the dog.
@hc75536 жыл бұрын
it's not abuse. I can't see any human able to run fast enough to keep up with dogs when they want to go at their own speed. walking for most high energy dogs is not enough. I was walking for 1.5 hour a day and it wasn't enough for my dogs. biking them made them much more happy.
@servicedogonabudget1804 жыл бұрын
Ok so its ok if your a cripple but not if you dont have the ability to keep up with a dog and exercise it properly. You are absolutely stupid no one on this earth can exercise a dog like these properly without doing something like this.
