I have the 989. It is insanely powerful. Tested on my leg (wearing jeans) and a trusted friend did the same on himself. Hurt so much we could not keep doing it for more than a split-second. Couldn't even imagine a 3-sec stun.

Good basic review. I think the point one should remember as you said, you have to have it in your hand, ready to go if someone does attack you. You need to become very familiar with using the switch and button. I used mine but it wasn’t against a person it was against a dog. Was using the light to get my mail when I was attacked by a large half breed and it lunged at me trying to bite my arm. I managed to push it into his shoulder and hit him for about a second. He let out a yelp and backed off. I sparked it a couple times in front of his face, and he took off running thank goodness.

That's such a good point. It's like anything, you need to know your gear so intimately that you can use it to respond in a high pressure situation. I am so glad that you had this with you.

Thanks for the brief video! Too many bodies being found nowadays. I will say I disagree with the comment you made about not wanting to hurt somebody. Be sure that if someone is coming at me to do me harm, you can darn well bet I want to hurt them instead. Hurt them badly enough to take them down (and keep them down) so I am able to get to safety and dial 9-1-1. With any luck they will be hurt badly enough they will still be down on the ground writhing in pain when the police arrive. 😲

Which one would you recommend for home self defense the VIPERTEK VTS-979 Stun Gun with Safety Disable Pin LED Flashlight or the VIPERTEK VTS-989/BL8 Stun Gun with LED Flashlight? And do you know what is the difference between these two and which one is better to have for home self defense or for protection or security or safety? Debating between these two models of which one to get for home?

Unfortunately, I don't know the difference. I may have to buy the other one to compare them. I would say that the one I show in this video would be more than sufficient for a home invasion situation. It's the one I trust to be at my bedside. Thanks for watching.

Because after a few years, it won't hold a charge. No charge equals making it less effective. Trust me, I wish it didn't have to be replaced, but this is true of all of these kinds of stun guns that I have ever come across. I wish they could make one that would just last, as I don't enjoy replacing it, because it's not like they are inexpensive. Hope that answers your questions. Thanks for watching.

Nobody scared of them when they are angry to max, they won't even jump from noise, it's only good if somebody trying choking you and u can't get out of it, but it has to be in a pocket for quick withdraw otherwise pepper spray and gun it best for keeping distance.

Yes, I agree with everything that you just said, except that it's only good in a choking situation. Pepper spray will only blind someone temporarily, but it takes time for them to become incapacitated. A gun is obviously best, but a lot of people don't want to carry a gun, so a stun gun is a great tool for them. At the end of the end, the best self defense tool is the one that you are willing to carry, familiar with using and aren't afraid to use.

Right, I got sabre red 3 in 1 with cs in it, or I recommend pom, fox , 5.3 squared, sum of them others or mild like shampoo in eyes that won't have as good as effect with eyes slamming shut and being outta of breath.

I would return it, after I made sure it had had the chance to charge properly. You shouldn't have an issue with the stun gun portion of the unit.

My Vipertek 989 battery will not hold a charge. Makes my stun gun unreliable. Vipertek has NO customer service so my stun gun is now useless. I wish they would at least have a telephone number to call, but NO! I would NOT purchase from Vipertek in the future.

Amazon has a tendency to do this even if local ordnances allow them for self defense. I would suggest utilizing another vendor such as eBay to obtain the device.

It's too big and clunky and easy to kick out of your hand. The stun rings are better, because they're concealable and can't be knocked out of your hand.

The old models have NIMH batteries and a standard wall outlet charge cord you plug into the stun gun. The problem with the NIMH are the batteries these cheaper stun guns use are low rated, garbage batteries and the internal circuits in the stun gun are cheap and poor design as well; the red led light will remain red and never turn green...there is no way to know when you have fully charged the batteries...if you overcharge NIMH batteries they might leak, but they shouldn't blow up, so the worst you will do is shorten their lifespan. If these companies used high quality NIMH batteries like sanyo, panasonic i.e. eneloop NIMH then they would be awesome and highly reliable when coupled with a better circuit design which monitored the voltage and cut off the charge when fully juiced up. The good thing now is there are newer models which have incorporated newer technology and have a micro usb port and 500 mAh battery and the led will turn green when fully charged. As its a li-ion battery the charge is cut off to avoid overcharging and battery explosion or vent episode. Li-ion batteries are in cell phones, laptops, etc and are safe with protective circuits, without they are dangerous if overcharged. I'm sure the li-ion battery is a cheap one, but its miles ahead of cheap NIMH. The green light on full charge is really nice feature. If you know anyone who can solder, you could easily have them replace the li-ion battery pack if it died or if you wanted a higher capacity battery. With the li-ion batteries, the stun gun should last longer, much longer and you shouldn't need to replace as often.

The easiest way to spot the new models is a micro usb charge port. "vipdeals" a seller on ebay who has the lowest prices, had told me they only stock the new models with usb charge port. They have pictures of the older models on some sales, but the 3 stun guns I ordered all had the usb charge port
