Thanks for the overview. Would be interesting to see examples of how/where the components are installed or in use and a 'schedmatic' of the system. But overall a really nice explanation!

R134a retrofit, answers a lot of questions I had for older gm vehicles such as the 1976 Cadillac Seville I have had less than desirable cooling with the original accumulator.

seems to me, that the early POA valve was a better design (i have run several) but the cost of them vs the switched system dictated the change , not the fact that cycling systems were better, they simply cost less to produce.

Ford had a similiar system called the Ford Combo valve system. It was not quite as troublesome.

You're insane if you think that R-12 will not out cool R134a. I can show you in my thermodynamics steam tables that you are wrong. They work at lower pressure which means more efficient and that means easier cooling. Also you can adjust the suction side in a VIR valve, you need an allen wrench. Finally, if you cycle an A6 compressor you will burn the clutch up. That's why A4's were made with bigger clutches and replaced A6's. My 76 Caprice will blow 37* air out the center vent with R-12 in it.

i see a A6 compressor and a S6 compressor. if there is nothing wrong with my A6 does it need changed.

Considering a VIR eliminator kit/compressor upgrade for my '73 Corvette... are there installation instructions on line anywhere for your kit that I could preview before ordering? Thx mardyn

I have a 1973 Vette also. I'm changing the A6 Compressor for the Aluminum pro6ten compressor. Using R-12. Will know how well it c works when shop is done tomorrow.

Hello I have a dozen 1976 old cars it just turned out that way as i bought up nice old cars o er tye past 25 years. I am working on a 76 seville I removed the A6 and the vir unit going back reusing the condensor the evaporator and using R12 with the sanden compressor that the bracket mounts nicely replacing the smog pump. its hellishly hot n humid in alabama. the vir eliminator how does it perform with R12 using the R12 ports I purchased that fit the sanden 508 also i plan to clean out both the condensor and evap coils with brake clean and compressed air before hand. routing of the new ac lines id like to know more of sizes that go to each hookup to get it right the 1rst time

Does you kit come with an expansion valve? Dont see it in the kit.
@RowdyCStuff2 жыл бұрын
The expansion valve inside the unit like the original which included a POA valve and receiver dryer.

I received my vir eliminator and i need step by step instructions on how to install it ive got the vacuum pump ordered with guages I have the cans of R12 and In the kit it came with radiator clamps to connect the hoses to the fittings i need colar rings to clamp the fittings to the hoses are the number 12 i the claping size My precious R12 cant leak out it must stay in the system id like to see a how to install video on this conversion so I can do the whole job myself. I have 6 of these cars 1973-1976 (5 ) are 1976 cadillacs that need to be converted. vintage air sells brackets for the sanden ckmpressor to swap it out grom the now $600 A6 each will be getting a sanden compressor A6 compressor changeover all will be run with R12 1977 and up cars using the eliminator style sytems used R12.

How did this work for you? The VIR eliminator is setup to bypass pressure for r134a not r12 as the pressure for cooling is different for r134a vs r12.

Does this eliminate the expansion valve
@RowdyCStuff2 жыл бұрын
No, the expansion valve is in the unit and not separate. The expansion valve allow high pressure refrigerant into the evaporator which turns the to low pressure refrigerant and when the fans blows over the evaporator creates cool air. The VIR eliminator one of many functions is to bypass the pressure to around 20 psi so r134a can cool better.

The VIR assembly system was GMs worst invention ever. Very bad about leaking. Never saw one last more than 2 years
