The show was controversial back in the day, but looking at it now, the Bundy's were more virtuous and closer than most families today. Al Bundy never cheated on his wife even when given the opportunity with Vanna White. Peggy never cheated on Al and always adored him. Al went to a job he hated each and every day to provide for his family. Although the Bundys quarreled with each other, if anyone messed with their family, they were all brawling.

@Mangs13378 жыл бұрын
spidermann5000 If you really break down Married with Children and look at it from a morale prespective, the show is all about the man’s sacrifice to become a “provider” for his family. Yes, Al “hates” his wife and he is clearly annoyed by his children, but he keeps going to a job he despises every single day, and he comes home from it every single day. While he hates his life, he still sticks around and provides for both his wife and his children. Al Bundy may be sexist, arrogant, rude and lazy, but he’s loyal to his family, not once does he abandon them. One of the intro songs shows Al sitting in a couch handing out money to his family with a depressed look on his face. One must ask why he doesn't just take the money and leave? It's because he actually loves his family. Just listen to the lyrics of the opening song; “Love and marriage, love and marriage, goes together like a horse and carriage, this I tell you brother, you can’t have one without the other”. It is basically a tale of a man making a sacrifice. Now I may be looking way too deep into this, but the whole show portrays, in a very tragic way, the plight and duty of a husband and father. Al is very much portrayed as a “hero” in many ways, but a hero that loses. He never gets his way because he puts his family first, and that is why he is so bitter.
@spidermann50008 жыл бұрын
Mangs Yes you go way to deep into it :P But its an interessting point and that I agree with that. :)
@starless41468 жыл бұрын
Well Said, Very well said. It is a bit too deep, but still Personally I never seen it from that kind of point of view. Sacrifice..yes..I agree. Though it's been a while since I even Seen Married with Children, I can remember the times when Al Really did stick up for his family, like his Daughter... The time his Daughter, Kelly was going out with some Loser and they were on a date at the Movies. Al went by and beat him up for Smooching on his daughter (or something like that). That in itself shows that he wants to protect his daughter, NOT to mention some Scene when the Bundy Family was fighting some Other Family at a park or something. They all Dislike eachother, but they all Stick together, making them strong as a Union. Despite the negativity of what Everybody goes through personally (and you can't help but to feel so Sorry for them at time), they Are Strong in there own way. Can't help but to give them all respect. The whole entire Series is like a Bitter/Sweet way of looking at life (or the life of the Bundy Family). OK, maybe I went to deep myself. σ_o
@godzshadow90018 жыл бұрын
+Mangs Not a bad breakdown, to piggyback on that Al never cheated on his wife. He turned down the opportunity of infidelity on numerous occasions. He kept his marriage covenant in tact. In the aspect of living a carnal life despite his attitude Al Bundy is the example of a True Husband!!

In other words the woman is so big that it would take more than half a tank of gas to drive to the _other_ side of her, just to 'say that to her face' Simply put, shes the size of a _planet_ , so half a tank of gas wouldnt be enough gas to drive to the other side of her... Sadly, a sitcom like this today would never fly because of all the whiny, sensitive people that have nothing better to do but get offended by anything, everything and anyone that even sneezes the wrong way.sad how far backwards we have gone. RIP Married With Children. I LOVED your show and you will live on on KZbin and our memories!

I remember reading back in the day that this show was secretly one of the best places for opportunities for women. More women writers on the staff than most shows, Amanda Bearse directed 31 episodes (and was able to go on to do more at other shows), and as you can see from this compilation it was one of the only opportunities for overweight comedians/actresses to get work for a long time. It's another great example of how, if they followed the Rules of post 2010 Wokeness and destroyed this show, they would be ironically stripping all sorts of opportunity from the very people they purport to want to help.
