I just discovered that I put the shaft at 1:20 in backwards, so that part of the shifter and the oil pump gear that goes over it cannot be fastened with the snap ring... ughhhhhhhh. Now I have to remove the flywheel again, split the cases, clean off and reapply the gasket material all over again. Yay..

Saludos.....tengo un motor de keeway 250 cruiser recien reparado 50KM aproximadamente de uso luego de su reparacion....prende bien acelera bien buena fuerza todo perfecto.....ahora de repente al acelerar da un ruido fuerte dentro del motor parecido al de una correa de alternador de vehiculo cuando desliza eso se produce solo al acelerar fuerte el motor luego en minimo no suena nada solo el sonido normal del motor en minimo.....le da ese sonido fuerte al acelerar.....alguna opinion.....gracias....

Id like to remove the cylinder head cover brackets on my virago and leave the covers off permanently. Do the bolts still fit in tightly without the brackets on? Is there an easy way of doing it without taking the engine out completely? The bolts hit the frame of the bike when you try to remove them with the engine still mounted.

I think it should. If not, you can use some washers of the same ticknes. You have to tighten all four bolts with propper torque.

What is the torque ratio on the screws, I about to replace seals on the right side of the engine do to a small micro leak problem that I am having its an XV250 engine on a 2014 Yamaha V-Star 250... thank you for your help... I just don't want to over-torque the seal and crack it..

How do u adjust The flywheel?

You do not adjust it. There is a notch on the main shaft and also on flywheel, inside wich fits the "woodruff key". So flywheel can be mounted only in one position onto the main shaft. Please see the image on page 4-12 in pdf that I linked in response to Leonardo. And also drawing on page 4-40, key is marked with number 8. But it is extremly important to adjust the timing chains. It is not difficult, but it MUST be done correctly. Otherwise valves will not open at the right moment and there is also possibility that piston collides with the valve... and then is probbably game over :)

Hi! This video actualy wasn't filmled as a video, but as a series of photos from webcam, hanging above working area. So, I have somewhere near 8000 "photos" , but unfortunatley the dimensions are only 640 by 480 pixels. Besides that I only have 8 other pictures, rtaken by friend during assembly. I am not an expert on mototrycles, but nevertheless I'm doing a lot of servicing at home. Please check the book I mentioned in my answer to LeonardoValente, I 've read the entire chapter on engine disassembly and assebly few times before I started and also used that book during proocedure. You can ask me for some details and I'll try to help, if I'll still remember. :) Wish you a lot of success on your repairment.

I'm not a mechanic, so I do not rebuild engines. I'm just maintaining few motorcycles of our family: mine (XVS1100A), my wife’s (XV535), daughter’s (Shadow750), fathers (CBF1000) and sons in law (VN800). "Maintaining« usually means changing oil and filters, brake pads and maybe discs, gears and sprockets, etc. Assembling engine on this video was the biggest fix I've preformed, because I had to change secondary shaft in gearbox that has been destroyed by sprocket. I just made a lap-stop video of reassembling engine. Engine is from old Virago 250 that has been driven by many members of our family through the years. Best regards, Martin

Hi, Leonardo. As far as I know there is no Clymer or Haynes - like manuals for XV250. But one can find Yamaha's service manual on the internet in PDF form. I found it somewhere few years ago... not sure on which site. If I google it right now, the first one that pops-up is this: virago250street.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/yamaha_xv250_service_manual-lit-11616-xv-25-1994-291-pgs.pdf. I believe it is the same as mine. I don't know if Yamaha officialy published it or is it a leak, but it is usefull anyway :) Best regards, Martin

I used Black silicone "GASKET MAKER" that I bought in regular car parts shop. It is regular gasket material, you can probbably buy it almost everywhere. I'll try to put some photos of mine...
