You should have made clear that all RNA-virus ARE NOT retrovirus. Some do not change their RNA to DNA but rather go directly to a ribosome and replicate there with viral RNA polymerase.

@@minabish1783 RNA Viruese are divided into two (ssRNA and dsRNA),so under single stranded RNA (ssRNA) again it is sub divided into positive strand and negative strand ,again under positive strand they are divided in terms of Enveloped and Non enveloped ,so under developed that's where you find retroviridae e.g (AIDS), Togaviridae e.g (rubbela) Hope this helps

What is the actual genetic material the virus drops of into the host cell
@davemckay4359
@davemckay4359 10 жыл бұрын
They don't know. It could be a sort of compacted genetic material from similar subspecies of animal that somehow consciously seek to promote evolution or DNA recombinations--or seek to destroy it. --like it is used by us as a kind of chemical, biological warfare. I don't know...just speculating here.

Hello! May I ask...DNA replication happens in S phase of Cell cycle. DNA is always replicated into two. Why did you draw in 3.50 so many copies of DNA?
@TheDrWeirdo
@TheDrWeirdo 11 жыл бұрын
Because although DNA is replicated into two, in the lytic cycle of the virus, the virus's DNA tells the host cell's DNA to continually replicate it. This generates a large amount of virus DNA for the later stages of the lytic cycle.

there are two types of cells: bacteria and eukaryotic. a bacteria IS a cell, and viruses can infect it (called a phage) but they can also infect eukaryotic cells also

In the first case, how does the viral dna get into the nucleus, isn't there any mechanism inside the cell to detect foreign dna? Does it live alongside the existing dna, or does insert itself into the host dna? And how does the messenger rna get triggered to code this new dna? For example, if the vast majority of human dna is non-coding, what tells the rna that this viral dna is to be coded? BTW, for a great discussion on how RNA can change DNA (AIDS and cancer), I recommend the Solvable podcast ("AIDS") and Revision History ("Obscure Virus Club")!

@janezhang4114

+Jane Zhang so if viruses aren't alive, how do they have dna and rna, and how do they know they have to attach to a host.
@shifukoala5543
@shifukoala5543 8 жыл бұрын
+Austin Vanderheyden viruses maybe alive, but they're not at the same time, they have the character of a living being and inanimate being. i dunno how they have the dna and rna, but i think the answer is the same as "how do human have dna and rna" well, they just do. they don't really have a 'duty' to infect something, but hey, they're parasite, which can only live on a living being's cell or bacteria. Why are they attacking spesific cell? Because they have something called reseptor(that's what my country called it) that if it matches the one on the cell's wall, the virus can go in, if it doesn't match, well, keep searching until they find cells that match and penetrate it
