JepRuss is a joke/hoax program (doesn't harm data or inhibit any system functions/operations) for 32-bit Windows OSes that is in fact a promotional marketing program for Virus: The Game published by the company Telstar. It's intention is to mimic the appearance and function of an actual computer virus. It will run through itself via a timer or through user interaction. Its program icon is that of a smiley :) face. Supposedly the program spread via typical file-sharing methods under the name "gameofthecentury.exe".
Payload:
Upon launch it displays a dialog box stating "Please Wait. Initialising..."
After a moment it displays a facsimile of the Windows Explorer with the actual contents of the Windows directory of the host computer. It also presents a question dialog box stating
"Confirm Folder Delete
Are you sure you want to delete the folder [Windows] and all its contents ?
[Yes] [No]"
Attempting to mouse (or possibly tab) over the [No] button will push the mouse away/deselect it with an error sound.
Whether any action is taken JepRuss will then "proceed" to delete all contents of the WIndows directory including all contents of drive C and any other drives on the system. After completion it then presents a fake shutdown dialog box that reads
"Shut Down Windows
Windows has detected there is no system software on your computer
(*) Shut down the computer?
( ) Restart the computer?
( ) Close all programs and log on as a different user?
[Yes] [No] [Cancel]"
[No] is disabled and again whether any action is taken or not it then blanks out the screen and types out "Thank god this is only a game..."
Shortly after it then will display an advertisement for Virus: The Game with ordering information and then exit to the desktop.
