What's the purpose of the flap that opens on the engine on touchdown and closes at 6:51. does that help create drag?

Essentially yes. its just a thrust reverser

Thats the reverse thrusters. When deployed they divert the engine bypass air forward instead of out through the back of the engine. Slowing the aircraft
