While working for Network Rail. I was lucky enough to travel in the cab with the driver from Manchester Piccadilly to London and back again. Best day ever.

Love the tilt action

Ah yes, the wonderful tilt action that we were not prepared to develop fully - only to give it to the Italians who made it work and absolute treat 🤷♂️

It really does lean. It's like being on a motorbike.

The entry to the tunnel on the down line is a bit of a shocker for some first time drivers, apparently.
@PhilSmith716 ай бұрын
I can confirm that! The pressure change certainly got you driving a Class 86. My instructor told me about it only after we had entered the tunnel! 😂
@lordsplonge81476 ай бұрын
It wasn't just the change in air pressure. To me it always looked like the tunnel mouth wasn't big enough even you knew full well that it was.

This is what driver Jack Mills would be looking at driving BR diesel locomotive D326, hauling the Royal Mail train, at around 3 am on August 8, 1963. The train would be stopped a mile past Leighton Buzzard by a false red signal, and the Great Train Robbery would begin, with Jack being coshed trying to fight off the first two robbers entering the cab. Then the train was uncoupled and driven further down, with the locomotive and first two carriages containing the sacks of money.

@slayr399 Check the camera angle and check the train angle, camera angle is way more and that for camera tilt fail. He did want to let it look more impressing by holding the camera in a bit to high angle. You can also see clearly that the camera is handhold by the movements it makes.

Amtrak needs something similar to that for the NEC, increase those slow 70 zones to 110 and beyond.
@JoelVChan5 жыл бұрын
Amtrak has even faster train (140 mph). The reasons they only use it at a few spots is that the line is too congested, mixing up local and high speed traffic.

You can see why they have to tilt, those are some tight curves!

A very nice video. Were you near the driver to shoot the video from the front or the ahead position? Thanks for sharing.

@CRTukker what are you on a bout mate it's the train that's tilting not the camera

A simple speed comparison - this train is travelling at almost TWICE the speed of a Class 4 F/L

Are the lines flat, the video gives the impression of a small slope on the track. I think it’s an optical illusion. I am Australian but done a few trips on those trains,
@nkt1 Жыл бұрын
No, the lines are canted, but to accommodate all trains. Tilting trains add more cant, as it were, allowing the same degree of passenger comfort at high speeds.

Leighton buzzard is right in the south west corner of Bedfordshire. The boundary is very strange as it goes right around the town in a kind of loop shape. Buckinghamshire is the neighbouring county.

Camera tilt fail......
@TrainFan_959 жыл бұрын
This video exaggerates the tilt, as the camera is already sitting at an angle.
