Travelled on the Pendolino from manchester - London Euston on the 9:15 train. The tilt is more noticeable at night and the speed felt sensational, more akin to a motorbike than a train. It took just 2 hours 15 minutes to reach the Euston station. Which makes it the fastest transport option for the machester - london route. A very nice train indeed, recommend anyone to try it out.

@@eckyhen I completely agree, not because I live in its path, but because many of the London to Birmingham trains are always short formed. Chiltern calls itself "Mainline", has powerful new locomotives & a spacious luggage van (push - pull), yet the formation is still only 5 or 6 coaches. On the LNWR, you won't see 12 coaches because they've decided to stop at the local stations into Birmingham, when that used to be a metro service from Coventry. The politics of HS2 is probably more about greed & one political side trying to topple the other, financially,

Travelled on a pendolino today from Wolverhampton to Birmingham. Everything went according to plan until we got into the Birmingham tunnel. About half way through there was a massive bang and a huge spark. The driver put the emergency brake on and after we stopped the power went out for about 20 seconds before the emergency lights came on. We were in there for at least 15 minutes before we managed to crawl into Birmingham New Street. Turns out the overhead wires had come down, which is why there was major disruption today.

It's the vigilance making the beeping sound not the DSD. In railway terms down means away from London and Up means towards London. The PRI nor preliminary route indicator won't replace feathers on a signal. It's just to give the driver advance indication of the route set before the junction signal.

What a tragically underused station Rugby is. I would have most of the TV expresses stopping there as first stop out of Euston. I'd have the Wolves first stop at Cov & then hourly via Brum to Liverpool, another the same but to Manchester. I'd have the suburban Northampton trains splitting at Rugby for TV & West Mids. I'd also put the souther bays back into use as a commuter terminus.

This may sound stupid, but what is the signal that looks like a national speed limit sign near some of the signals?
@RazordraacGaming6 жыл бұрын
Before the signals? That's a warning to tell you what aspect the next signal is at. If it's a diagonal line (like the national speed limit sign) then the next signal is at danger (red). Otherwise it is horizontal to show a clear (green) or caution (yellow) aspect.It's usually used when there's poor visibility of the signal ahead, such as on a tight bend, and you would not have time to react to it when you see it to slow down/stop in time.
@gfgfgf4666 жыл бұрын
It's a Banner Repeater. As already mentioned it gives the driver advance warning if the signal ahead is showing a danger or proceed aspect.

does that sound alert not get intensely irritating throughout your entire career as a train driver??
@scottmurphy42782 жыл бұрын
It’s most likely the DSD (Driver Safety Device). The driver has to respond to it to confirm they’re still conscious and able to control the train safely. If the driver does not respond, the train will automatically apply the emergency brake to ensure the train doesn’t crash if the driver is incapacitated.

@audigex5 жыл бұрын
squizza28 “up” is towards the official start of the route, normally the major city. Almost all trains go “up” to London, for example, and “down” away from it. It has nothing to do with north or south
@xaiano794 Жыл бұрын
If you want to know why they have up and down lines instead of north/south east/west, it's because tracks could loop back on themselves, so one section may be north -> south while another south -> north and this would get very confusing for passengers and could even cause safety risks with confusing which trains were on which tracks, so the tracks were simply defined in reference to one end, everything was up towards that point and down was away.
@DavidR_1927 ай бұрын
Up = towards London. Down = away from London. "Rugby Down" means at Rugby in the direction of travel away from London. = correct.

@DavidR_1927 ай бұрын
That was the DVD (Driver Vigilance Device) - the foot pedal that the driver keeps pressed down, but must lift up every 90 seconds, to show they're still conscious. Basically, the "chime" is the AWS clear confirmation (green signal) and the "beep beep beep" is the DVD.
