Little wonder then that so many family historians need to research Virginian ancestors. My earliest American ancestor was Capt. Thomas Harris who arrived in Jamestown in 1610/1611. His first , wife Adria Hoare, was the mother of his two children, Mary and Maj. William are both my direct ancestors when Obediah Harris, Sr. married his distance cousin Elizabeth Watkins, daughter of Silas Watkins,

What a fantastic presentation - thank you so much! I have a 'Smith' connection and a county name, so hopefully I will be able to dig up further information and possibly go back in time from there, too. There is family lore that we are related to Pocahontas (as I suppose are millions? of others), and trying to verify if there's any truth to that.

My 6th great gf was Christopher Robinson (d.1693), "Hewick" Plantation, Urbanna, VA, also House Of Burgess member, and a founding trustee of the College of William and Mary 1692, by his 2nd wife Katherine Hone Beverley Robinson, daughter of Maj Theopilus Hone, Jamestown 1607, thus a 7th maternal gr grandfather. I am 9 Robinson generations down from Virginia to Georgia.
