I have never listened to DMB. Ya, I was around when they first came out and made it. I was just into other things back in the 90's. I took my girlfriend to see them in Camden on 6/27/15. DMB is her favorite band. I was open-minded and was interested in seeing them, as they are of course extremely talented. They played this song and I was a mess. I only knew about 4 songs that they played, never heard this in my life, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was practically weeping the duration of the song. No idea why! Maybe it's the tone of that keyboard just resonated with me, I don't know. Any people complaining about it (here and on other sites) are just stuck on an island. "oh no! he isn't playing only the hits!" This song shattered my perception of them and I would love to hear more like this. and anyone saying that Carter isn't really doing anything in this song clearly has no idea about the drums.

Absolutely brilliant. I love DMB and always will. Carter is part of the reason I’ve been drumming for 25 years. Glad this song moved you the way it did.
@dude41733 жыл бұрын
@@jimbeaux89 damn, same exact reason here. Got into drumming at 5, but Carter is the only reason I kept going. I’m 32 now drum at least every other day. Will never stop, can’t! Thanks to DMB

This song is a once in a lifetime capture. The recording is just so special, if they did it a million times in a row I don't think they'd ever capture what they did on the album. I heard Dave play this acoustic in Toronto a couple of months ago, and I gotta say, it really needs the keyboard, and especially bass. You have a whole pile of stuff to discover. Check out Beachball. Welcome to team Dave.

Chester i love what you do and thank you for it. Could you post the unfiltered version not cleaned up. I love the lyrics but this show for me was the most cereal and euphoric. The rain was like bath water it came harder when the band played harder. Again Thank you for your passion for the preservation of music

My current favourite DMB song. I just started listening to them so this is subject to change though.

Carter is so sick in this.....holy shit. No other drummer in the world would play like that in a song of this type...

Been a while since a DMB song made me feel a certain way-- Wow, just wow!! So grateful and very hopeful for the upcoming record! :)

Dave Matthews is 48 near 50 and can still make music, regardless of whatever obscene expectations we as fans should expect. This song is unique to him and clearly a great example he still has a heart and trying to let it's different moods talk. Besides the lyrics the music, if you grew up in the 90's, know this has some very strong influences that are not DMB realm. Hooverphonic comes to mind; just saying as an example. Don't write this off coz sugar will was once filled in w Santana. This song shouldn't die but expand the horizons.

+neoisgod9 musicians grow and change like everyone else if they stayed the same, it would not be good, it would be the same over and over. at this point i do not want them to sound like the '90's it is so long ago, i was in high school when i first started listening to them, i can appreciate some aspect of all their albums. they do not all have to sound like Crash to be a very good album. their mellow stuff is great!

There is something about this song I just love. Maybe it's the classic Dave feeling, maybe it's the constant shifting in time signatures, maybe it's how great the music is. Maybe it's everything. I cannot wait until this song comes out in studio.

very nice, really got under my skin. Still writing great songs all these years in makes me happy for the future with this band. There's a sound here reminiscent of radiohead. Loving it!

MrRichardsREM Completely agree on the Radiohead feel, maybe that Kid A sound? Under the skin is also spot on - this one really sticks for the right reasons.

Not sold on the keyboard - kind has a sound that hurts my ears, Maybe a regular piano would work better? Other than that, sounds great!
@stephanie43554 жыл бұрын
Amanda Maldonado This is not a keyboard. It’s a Rhodes. And this is a signature sound for the instrument.

I just do not like Tim. He almost always ruins classic DMB songs. I know he's super talented. I did enjoy him and Dave back in the day, but he just doesn't fit with the whole band. I love the band by themselves and Tim at some point tends to drown out their sound. I think they did a pretty good job replacing Leroi with Rashan and Jeff. They didn't need to add Tim.
@jills86289 жыл бұрын
Leroi is goosebumps!!! Miss him tons!!!
@dylan86709 жыл бұрын
Nina Bongiovanni I completely agree, and have been saying this for a while now. I have nothing ill to say about Tim Reynolds or his playing. But . . . the fit just isn't there. I just attended a DMB concert in MIchigan and had a great time, but it was the same live. He took away from their groove.
@felixLucretius9 жыл бұрын
I actually really love him in this song. And I do love him in some other songs. But I agree entirely. As nice as the electric is in some of the harder songs, the piano really fit so much better with the band. Not to mention keyboards can still imitate the electric guitar sound if necessary. (Folsom Field Watchtower comes to mind)
@zooganut9 жыл бұрын
Nina Bongiovanni I wish they would try to add Timmy acoustically to the main set and allow him to play more like he does on "live at radio city". I don't think it helps that his tone sounds super nasally and cold either.
@felixLucretius9 жыл бұрын
Ryan Curran Agree 100%, it's how I felt as soon as I heard Lying In the Hands of God live. He plays acoustic studio on so many songs and I really don't understand what's so hard about just switching to an acoustic in concert full band when it's clearly more fitting.
