Has any team ever won 3 straight instant classics the way Virginia did this season to win the title? This game, the Auburn game and the Texas Tech game were all once-in-a-lifetime type games and they played them consecutively and won them all. ok but if virginia missed the free throw in a way that somehow it hit off the rim and went out of bounds without anybody touching it, who’s ball is it? purdue’s bc it went out “off of” virginia. it was virginia’s ball, one clear virginia player touched the ball without any dispute, and it went back court. he got a rebound for that back tip, which means it had to be virginia’s possession.

Greatest pass in the history of March madness and the college basketball equivalent of Willie Mays making an over-the-shoulder catch and whirling throw. Kihei Clark's pass was MUCH BETTER than the one to Christian Laettner because for the latter, Duke had time to draw up a play, no one guarded the passer, the passer had no choices -- he was directed to pass to Laettner -- the pass itself was meh; it was just lousy defence from Kentucky and a good catch and shoot from Laettner. Clark chased down the ball running full speed away from the basket, had to make a cross over to create space, had three other options -- shoot, pass to Guy, pass to Jerome -- and made the perfect decision and a bullet pass to Diakite right to his basket size, head high, so he could catch and shoot before time expired. Notice the Virginia fundamentals too -- Guy shielded the closest Purdue player so Clark would be unimpeded chasing the ball, Guy and Jerome got wide to spread the defense and Diakite positioned himself so he could receive a pass and have just enough space to get it over Purdue's 7-footer.

Learn the rules. On a missed free throw, neither team has possession of the ball until they secure possessions, and tipping the ball is not possession; UVA did not gain possession until Clark chased the ball down. So the refs got it exactly right.

Diakite released his shot with 0.4 seconds left. The shot clock started between 0.1 and 0.2 seconds after the tip. So the shot would have counted even if the timekeeper hit that start button at the moment of the tip. Great game!

You're wrong, because possession has to be established in the frontcourt first when the ball becomes live. Simply tipping it out or slapping it backwards doesn't count as possession, so no backcourt violation.
