Nostalgic VB Volume 1

As the City approaches its 60th Anniversary in January 2023, we’re honoring Virginia Beach pioneers and proud residents with a collection of documentary shorts that tell the story of Virginia Beach-then through now-called Nostalgic VB. What they didn’t tell you was the reason why Princess Anne County & The resort area merged to become Virginia Beach. It was because Norfolk started aggressively annexing into Princess Anne County - The Norfolk Airport and the neighborhoods surrounding it used to be in Princess Anne County but Norfolk annexed that land. To stop Norfolk from annexing anymore of the County Princess Anne County they decided to merge with the ocean front to become the city of Virginia Beach. State law allows a city to annex into a county but a city can not annex into another city.

Great information. Do you know if the big Miller's shown at 2:30 is the reason why have Miller store road in the exact area you're speaking about?

@@beachg9379 That is a great question. I don’t know. But the names are a little different “Miller” Store Rd vs “Millers”. Also it doesn’t look like the same general area. The picture at 2:30 to me looks like Virginia Beach Blvd somewhere between the Lynnhaven and the Ocean Front (but I could be way off base).

@@jamielancaster01 Thank you. I'm doing research on the city and trying to find all the information I can find. Virginia Beach should have a better log of our history. How do you know that story of Priness Anne and the Ocean front merging?

The boardwalk train! I used to wish to ride it. Grandma took me and my brother for a ride on it 😄 I still call the region Tidewater. What's all this Seven Cities and #757 🤣
