On our second day of duck hunting down in Texas this January we headed out to some public land where I had shot my first canvasback a couple years before. We were the second truck in the parking lot and after a long walk-in to the pond we were greeted by a headlamp shining back from the area we had wanted to setup. Luckily, the headlamp belonged to Logan who invited us to setup with him and combine spreads. The first light action was a little slow but we stuck it out and were rewarded with a late morning flight that produced a nice mixed bag of birds. Hope you enjoy!

You did right by asking him asking if you join him he was there first . I have to tell you I’ve watched you videos before and I’m very impressed on your sportsmanship you guys really are a class act . I seen the video where that farmer was giving you a hard time on a snow goose hunt that you were on . The way that you handled your self showed a lot of self control . Ps I love your videos . I hope to see many more of your videos.I water fowl hunt in Nj .

You absolutely did the right thing. Anyone who sets up 100 yards intentionally are probably some of the most frustrating hunters around. Always ask if the hunter(s) are okay with you joining them.

I know it frustrates the hell out of me when it happens so I never want to be that guy. We would’ve probably shot a few more ducks in that other spot but that’s not worth being a jackass and wrecking someone else’s hunt

I would have moved across the pond to a different location. It's not always the best idea to hunt with guys you don't know or you aren't used to, your buddies you can pretty much read them what they will do, and it makes for a much safer and fun hunt.

I've hunted texas public land , my experience texas Duck hunters are a joke ,rude , loud , inconsiderate. They will set up right on top of you and then shoot in your direction . Had a group cut my blind down just to suit there needs knowing damn well they didnt build it. Where im from hunter dont touch other blinds . You can use it if that person isnt there . Dont be lazy and build your own

I would have done the same thing. More people calling and more decoys on the water improves everyone’s chance of a fun successful hunt. It’s like deer or turkey hunting and talking in the parking lot before going out. Public land is for everyone to share and enjoy the experience whether that’s making new friends or talking to ensure you don’t intrude on another’s experience.
@HokeOutdoors

Agreed, besides the lack of hide in this spot I felt like teaming up helped us all out and the combined spread pulled some birds in that otherwise might’ve landed out far

As hunters and conservationists, we need to be more friendly and open with each other and have more comradery with helping each other out with hunts. I for one wouldn't mind asking anyone to join, you never know their setup, and their decoy's. Combining decoys and tactics could have a very positive outlook on a hunt. Glad to see they were sportsman about it!

For sure, conflicts on public land are way too common these days unfortunately. We learned a good bit from Logan too since he had more experience hunting this spot.

I use a Franchi Affinity 3. It's pretty much all I've used for the past 4 seasons, so I don't think I could do an adequate review on all the shotguns out there. Check out Joel Strickland's shotgunning series on the Surviving Duck Season channel, he did a breakdown on a bunch of shotguns
