I was a collector and my kids and husband called me coco. I have given them to my kids, and am selling them. Their prices got too high. The quality went down, and I began to see fakes that were identical to the naked eye. One of my fav brooches I loaned to my niece for her wedding. She returned it unharmed, and I purchased something on the web that looked like it. Here’s the problem….. there was no difference. That’s when I woke up. Our world in its current state is not safe to carry these overpriced bags. I am done. I don’t have to worry about being robbed. I am free to wear more comfortable, fashionable bags. Don’t have to lock them up… that’s all. It was a fun time, but now feels so arrogant. That is the way I feel now.

Virginie Viard exercised her free will by walking out with her head held high, she is not a martyr. With her expertise and industry contacts, who's to say she won't start her own company? All fashion houses started somewhere, and many legendary designers started out working for well established houses.

You can always depend on greedy, heartless and incompetent management to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs . Very predictable. On the other hand ...neither Virginie nor any other living designer can match Karl as far as creative output is concerned . Karl could probably design in his sleep if he slept at all. Maybe they confuse Virginie's creative capabilities with Karl ? No one could replace him these days as far as output and quality is concerned ....good luck with that !

@@crazycatladyjo2688 However he did design for Fendi, his own label and a lot more besides. He was unique and prolific at least IMO he and Tom Ford were exceptional at translating into commercial pieces and also setting and defining a trend. Virginie is competent and under excessive pressure from what it appears. But you don't need to look far to see what that kind of pressure does look at the melt down Galliano had at Dior. It's endemic to the industry with LVMH being all about the numbers. Chanel is trying to play catchup to this world of high volume and low costs. It won't end well.

I love her and the latest collection I love all of those jackets if I had money I would buy the whole outfit. That said of the time when CEO changed they always want bring in their people and fired or bully the existing employees. I don’t like Leena in regards to the statement she made last month-Leena is a totally BAD NEWS to Chanel -Her mindset are LOWEND like H&M , Zara. Her statement last month was unacceptable to Chanel customers. Probably sweatshop (India).

I could never understand the logic of hiring a CEO who has no experience in the industry in question. I saw this when I worked in aviation. Just because someone is good at managing a fast food company doesn’t mean they’ll be good at running an airline. The devil is in the details. Nair came from Unilever. Sellling toothpaste is not the same as selling haute couture. 🤷‍♀️

The seamstresses have always been working all hours especially before the runway shows. Many of them have worked their whole lives with these ateliers. The fashion houses have had to work harder and harder and produce more and more garments. How could that be sustainable in the terms of human resourcing? These collections only have gotten larger! Have they not had to close boutiques? The taxation has increased as well as the prices of the garments but there has been an increase of customers in the Far East. Could it be that the fashion House will not permit her to have more flexibility? Perhaps there’s fears based on these emerging economic situations that they want to take more control. Perhaps the investors were not satisfied with what they have seen the runway and was pressured to leave based on the complexities of the constraints?💖 Maybe they’re trying to protect Her, if she resigned. Those fashion shows are insane in terms of the sheer size. How can so much clothes can be produced in such a short period of time? 🤷‍♂️

This really makes me sad, but … it doesn’t really surprise me. No one deserves to be treated like this after almost four decades of dedication, passion and loyalty for a brand, but I can see why Virginie Viard decided to leave. It must be so painful for her on so many levels. Capitalism will probably destroy itself once consumers see the truth. However, a lot of people might just turn a blind eye … I have thought so many times that the bubble might eventually burst. So far it didn’t.

Tuesday 25th is Now already, only 2 days. And one of the so many thoughts I had about this, imagine if they really sell, and WHAT if Virginie would buy Chanel!! ohh! wouldn't that be wonderful??? She would re-vive the real Chanel, but then I thought that's just fantasy, she should get her own brand: Virginie, by Virginie Viard...oh THAT would be wonderful!! but no one knows what is in Virginie's head and heart, I am very happy for her, after all the time she dedicated to Chanel and the public, she deserves to take a break, rest and decide in time what's best for her, only she can decide. Yes and they could be challenged as unreasonable especially if they try to limit future employment and specify no work for a period 'gardening leave'. The reason you get to have those restrictions it's a deserved limitation for the extremely high salaries involved. It's uneasonable restraint of trade on these people with highly sought after skills but they aren't remunerated well. Generally speaking. I don't know the precise facts involved here of course. All this is reasonable comment and speculation.

The strange thing is, there are plenty of really wonderful seamstresses and tailors in Asia. The fact that the clothes are made in Asia isn’t really a problem. It shouldn’t mean that the garments are poorly made.

I agree with you, the thing is that in France there is an organisation (la Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture) that rules the whole thing at least for France, and they provide the rules or protocoles? about which houses can be considered or be part of the list of Houses of Hight fashion, so that might explain why the workshops where the dresses and creations are made, have to be located in France... at least as Chanel is (or was) originally a french brand. Though, these are just my conclusions, but the Union exists so its rules might apply to Chanel and other french brands. I agree with you there are talented people everywhere, so why should Asia be different, right?

Also when it’s Chanel we’re talking about where it states ‘made in France’ or ‘Italy’ -it should NOT be made in Asia.

Yes but they are not sweatshops and charge more than sweatshops. Why would greedy corporations hire them ?

I guess the question I have is this: if all of this is true (and I have no reason to doubt it given recent intel with Dior, Armani, etc), how long until everyone forgets? I won't, but there are a lot of people hung up on their brands who tend to turn a blind eye. As I've said many times, I think of the fiasco involving Saipan/Mariana Islands in the 1990s and early 2000s and yet most of those companies are still in business and doing just fine. Thank you for your info and opinions Dacob!

Good! Many companies, depending on the industry, are responsible for the entire supply chain and have to do scheduled/thorough inspections of their suppliers.

The Chanel 22 mini looks it’s made in those places 😢! I tried the latest Matiers the Art (red jacket in the featured ad), there’s nothing special about the tweed, nor the design! It looks just like an average ready to wear piece. It was USD $10,000! The SA was pushy! 😅😅😅I left the shop without even getting the bag I looked at to start with! 😢definitely won’t go back to buy any bags now! I also don’t understand why they hired a FMCG background lady to head up a designer fashion house. She n her team made Chanel look more n more like Zara these days!

GREED is what is destroying all the classics! Prime designs fashion were coveted because they conveyed a certain lifestyle, a certain state of mind and their products were limited! You talk about RESPECT but that is what has been lost along the way ….LA POLITESSE EST À L’ESPRIT CE QUE LA GRÂCE EST AU VISAGE👉🏽Politeness is to the spirit what grace is to the face! We have lost both………THE SWEAT SHOP CAME WITH A CERTAIN PERSON👀, rhymes with “hair”, just saying! Beside, TO BE LABELED “HAUTE COUTURE” EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE DONE IN FRANCE!

W•O•W is All I have to say about Virginie’s LAST Haute Couture Show. It was Amazing! That CCun*t Leena Nair made a BIG MISTAKE in letting Virginie leave the house. This last show was Night and Day when compared to Maria Grazia Chiuri’s crap show where she recycled the same looks from her previous shows. #ChanelIsDead #ChanelIsADumpsterfire #ChanelIsCollapsingAtBreakneckSpeed

Just watched the show or film as Chanel calls it. Virginie didn't come to bow. The whole show was so sad, and that bride at the end with eternal music... Like the angel left the house, maybe Coco's spirit did😪😪👼 The beautiful opera entourage added sadness, like opera drama where everybody is gone at the end, Coco, Karl, Virginie....

Comments are, of course OFF. I'm laughing, not a surprise here! If you want to tune in it starts at 2pm Paris time (Central European time) which is +9h Los Angeles time or + 6hrs New York time: 5AM Los Angeles, 8AM New York on tuesday 25th. I want to watch and see what happens. Dacob your reporting is superb, thank you
