Virtua Fighter 2 (Arcade, 1994) - Real Arcade Hardware Capture (Super Hyper Mega Quality Edition)

A new capture of Virtua Fighter 2 from my original Sega Model 2A arcade PCB. I have used my new OSSC Pro, an Extron 1804 4k scaler and an Elgato 4K X capture card, and the results are miles better than my previous one. This is part of my attempt to document this wonderful and legendary game in its original arcade form before the aging, fragile PCBs start going kaput. Please enjoy.
*Another really bad playthrough here, sorry. My skills are very rusty, and they were pretty limited to begin with! Dural utterly obliterates me here. If you want to see me actually beat the shiny metal bint, please see my older capture...but don't do that, because the quality's not as good as this one...er...

I remember seeing this the first time in a Skegness arcade, and my jaw just hitting the floor. Such a massive upgrade from the original, as with the equivalent Saturn ports. Love the channel btw!

It's amazing to see how people can just easily (as i think) it is to get an arcade board as old as this! I love Virtua Fighter 2, even though it came out way before I was even born!

Masterprice. Back in 1994 was 15 years ahead of Namco and 30 years ahead of any other videogame company and Yu Suzuki was in another dimension compared to any other videogame designers

The only issue with these Model 2 hardware caps is the 57Hz not fitting into a 60Hz container. Watch closer during the intro and you'll notice the uneven frame-pacing. Fun Fact: The VF2 port on PS2 offered 57Hz and 60Hz modes for this reason.

Yeah that's true. At least it's uneven in an even way though, if you catch my drift. Nothing to be done about it unfortunately as far as I'm aware, at least on KZbin.

I was wondering why it seemed a bit jerky. I remember the arcade being absolutely silky smooth. That was one of the reasons it was so impressive at the time.

Closest I’ve come to playing the Arcade version of Virtua Fighter 2 is the emulations in the Yakuza games. Even on there, it’s one of the best fighting games I’ve played. Is the consensus that VF2 is the best one, or is it one of the later games?

I think they're all very highly regarded really, although some folks don't like 3 very much (I love it!). Virtua Fighter 2 is arguably the most "iconic" one, and I think aesthetically at least it's probably the best. Just timeless really. I've got a particular love for the first three games led by Yu Suzuki, but they're all excellent in my opinion. Thanks for watching.

This is not a difficult game to beat at all. It was pretty successful in Australia, but still nowhere near as popular as the Capcom or SNK fighting games, obviously.
