VF2 is THEE game that made me fall in love with 3-D games. I was 10 back in 1994 when it dropped in arcades, and I was absolutely astonished at how fluid, and real the game looked. The attract mode alone was visually appealing, and blew my 10 year old mind. A prolific trendsetter indeed, Sega was always ahead of their time. Love this video and the level of nostalgia it exudes.

I’m 52 and was never a fan of one on one fighters….Except for Virtua Fighter 2! I can’t exactly explain why. Soul Caliber 2 is my favorite but Virtua Fighter 2 is a close second! Great video!

I don't think it's possible for young people today to fully appreciate how mind-blowing this was when it first appeared in arcades. I could not believe my eyes. I was almost scared to play it, to be honest, as it just looked so fluid. I've never been good at the Virtua Fighter games (or any of the SEGA fighting games, if I'm being honest), but I sure as heck enjoyed the beatdowns I got! And when the game arrived on Saturn, I would stand in awe as I watched it running on demo kiosks in shops. To this day, my big regret is not owning a Saturn back in the day, because I would have played the heck out of VF2 and I know my (mostly PlayStation-owning) friends and family would have adored it.

Yep. It's iconic. I remember the Christmas I had it and SEGA Rally on the Saturn well. That and Tomb Raider and NiGHTS. Good stuff. I'd always end up mimicking Leon when play fighting. Miracle I didn't break my fingers!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw VF2 running on the saturn. It looked so much better than anything available at the time at home. On the arcade, I saw daytona first, so VF2 was less shocking.

personally, Virtua Fighter 1 and 2 distributed by Expert Software, was pretty easy to run on my pc back in the day. The demo also never caused me any trouble. I just wish it had controller support. I never had any issues using keyboard with it back in the day though. I love VF and VF2. I look forward to Virtua Fighter 6 ,currently in development.

It may be a small thing to some, but I like how you two shook up the voiceover format. Am used to narration vids being done wholly either by Dan or James so that was a well done hand off. I unfortunately don't have the same memories of VF2 and can only look at retrospectively. I did see the Saturn game in stores as a kid but didn't understand it. For as much as Tekken was technically outperformed by Virtua Fighter, the marketing for it was far more effective in my corner of the world at the time. But at least I am enjoying VF2 on Saturn now and can vouch along with y'all that it really is that damn good. I have it on Xbox 360 but would still rather play on Saturn.

I'm in a very select group. The ones that actually like Virtua Fighter Kids. It is just VF2, but everyone's got a big head. Same as holding down select on pad 2 between round on Tekken 2. And Tokyo (and everyone really) from Fighting Vipers with a big head running through fences was great too. I miss big head modes.

People nowadays cant imagine, what was like playing this in the arcade back in the 90s. Now, with the saturn port being perfect, how is it possible for media back then, to still say the console was unable to do 3d???

This is peak VF. They won't do it, but I hope that for VF6 they keep to this aesthetic but really expand the "world" of VF in the stages. The arcade version in particular has such a distinctive Sega style and fidelity, no other game looks like it....

Instead of the Genesis, Sega could had port this to the 32X instead. I feel that would had been a better port than the downgraded Genesis version. VF1 should had been ported to Genesis while VF2 should had been ported to 32X following the Saturn version.
