The Oudemirdum cliff rises 6 meters high, formed during the second-to-last ice age by immense glaciers from Scandinavia that pushed up the land and deposited large boulders in Gaasterland.

The IJsselmeer is a vast, relatively shallow freshwater lake largely surrounded by dikes and dams. The lake plays a significant role in recreation and supports intensive fishing. It was formed after the closure of the former Zuiderzee with the Afsluitdijk in 1932, resulting in the water becoming fresh within a few months.

Sloten is the smallest of the eleven Frisian cities, with a history dating back to the 13th century. The city is often referred to as the 'onion city' due to its shape.
