You remind me of my algebra teacher i had in high school. I have been so confused looking at ged practice questions on this. I couldnt for the life of me rememeber how i did this so well back then. Its been 11 years since i was in school. You explained this so well i actually got the questions right when i paused them and tried first. Thank you. I definitely subscribed! Cant wait to watch the other videos ❤

ayyyyyy, good job, homie. I know that feeling and sometimes, when you accomplish something that you just accomplished, math starts to feel like magic, istg. Keep up the good work, homie

Hi Kate. A little confused here. On this example - (x - 5y +3) when you get to the end you don't simplify I thought you could combine x's when they are alone. 5y - 4x. Maybe I just need more understanding of this.

X terms can ONLY combine with other x terms. Constant terms (basically they have no letters) can ONLY combine with other constant terms. So x’s with x’s, y’s with y’s, and plain old numbers with plain old numbers. Another thing to watch out for is exponents. x terms can combine with other x terms but NOT with x^2 terms. They have to have the same variable (letter) AND exponent (power) to combine. So x^3 terms with other x^3 terms, x^2 terms with other x^2 terms, x terms with other x terms, and constants (plain old numbers) with other constants Does that make sense?

I'm going to need A LOT more practice on these. I did all the practice problems but I got so many wrong for simple errors These are extremely frustrating because I understand it but can't get any of them correct

I think I know what the struggle is. Can you email me at lightandsaltlearning@gmail.com to chat about it?

I'm noticing that you are consistantly working on advanced level practices. Fully expect to make errors on those, there's a reason I call them advanced. I think you are doing fabulously!

@@LightandSaltLearning Sorry I missed your comment yesterday. Should I still email you? I do all the practices from beginner to advanced. Some of the advanced say "GED style" on them so I don't want to miss them if that's going to be expected on the test.

I understand. The advanced level practice feature a mix of the most challenging GED examples you might see and extensions of GED concepts meant to prepare you for college. It is lovely if you want to try them, but don't let them discourage you. Since you only need about half right to pass your GED, being able to work half of an advanced practice without assistance is lovely and anything beyond that is just a "score boost"! And, after seeing your post in the FB group, I don't know that we need to have the talk I was planning because your work is looking good. You math "grammar" is on point and you aren't dropping symbols like so many students do. I think you are doing well!
