Watching this video in 2020 a few days after the launch of the Oculus Quest 2. VR definitely got off to a slow start but it’s neat to see how far it’s progressed since this video. Can’t wait to see what VR is like in another 5 years!

You mention that is not good for your eyes watching things near your face. Is true, but this doesn't apply on VR headset. The reason is (Oculus for sure, all of them as far as I know) that the lenses move the focus of the screen indefinitely far away, the natural resting focus for our eyes.

If you are looking at a VR building 50m away, your eyes will physically be focused on a point 50m away. If you are looking at a horizon, both eyes will be looking straight ahead, "focused on infinity".
@MatteoDeCarlo
@MatteoDeCarlo 9 жыл бұрын
The focus of every pixel in VR is at infinity, for now. If you are looking at a spoon 1cm at your face, your eyes will be physically focused "on infinity".

@robertsollorn6493
@robertsollorn6493 9 жыл бұрын
Petey I feel like there would be huge interest in this. Video Games initially gained popularity because they were both fun and offered a form of escapism, as well as a relief of stress (of course they are so much more than this today). Full Immersion Virtual Reality would offer complete escapism and huge relief of stress. Not to mention there wouldn't really be any other form of entertainment on the planet more fun than FIVR considering you can simulate every other form of entertainment in FIVR, including those which are too difficult to pursue due to time or funding problems like snowboarding or skydiving - instead of spending money and time on a trip you could just do these activities in a virtual world. Plus it would give people the ability to do things they've only ever dreamed of. Everyone has at one point wished they could fly, well FIVR would allow exactly that. It would also enhance technological and scientific advancement even further since you would be able to accurately simulate all kinds of real life problems. We would be able to create perfect worlds with our every desire and wish come to life. It would be the biggest innovation mankind has ever produced, until something later surpasses it.

I have tried both Google Cardboard and the Oculus Rift. My verdict? Disappointing. I have my own Google Cardboard kit, and I have for a while now. Before trying Oculus Rift, I had only tried Google Cardboard. Google Cardboard was good, but it just wasn't good enough for a few reasons. Since Google Cardboard was really cheap and needed a smart phone, I imagined that Oculus Rift would be worlds better. But instead, when I tried Oculus Rift, I was disappointed, it was only marginally better, with the only improvements being that it's comfortable and the places where the screen doesn't go, it's completely black. Virtual reality, in its current state is disappointing and if it stays this way, it will flop after a while when it gets fully released to the public. Remember how cool motion tracking was with the Wii and Kinect? Now look where those two are, barely used at all.

Did you try the first gen Rift? You have to remember these are development kits. the consumer products will be vastly improved, and the technology is growing astoundingly fast. In 5 years it'll be insane, trust me. Just look at the first TVs and computers and consoles, those weren't too special, but this is already becoming huge.

Yo MKBHD you should start doing more of these types of videos. I don't have the patience to look into every technology that comes out so when you do videos explaining things like USB Type-C (or in this case VR) it goes a long way informing us more casual types. You're on to something!

1:47 IS IT STILL BAD FOR EYES?
@RoyHoy
@RoyHoy 4 жыл бұрын
@@stevethea5250 Blue light is bad for the eyes, which is common (phones, tv, laptop, etc). But you can fix that by using a blue light filter in VR. That's what I do. It's not really bad for your eyes. If it was, VR wouldn't be a thing.

There have only been two moments in my life when technology gave me a sense of magic: the first time was playing Nintendo for the first time and seeing pixels dancing around on my TV in 1986. The second time was when I got a Rift development kit last year and tried a rollercoaster game demo. I felt like I was there and no words can accurately describe the experience. I'm getting an HTC Vive for Christmas along with a new PC I'm building specifically for it. I never knew I wanted VR up until a few years ago when I first heard of the Rift and now it's finally in reach. So excited.

Alright Marques. For the last 2 years I've watched all your videos basically religiously. If I turn my phone on and find half a dozen notifications, your channel being one, you always get my attention first. So your awesome. That's pretty clear. Anywhosies, I have a request that's super in your ball park. I was wondering if you could do a video for the best type of camera in each certain price range. Ya know, under $100, $100-250, $251-500 and so on. You're the genius, and I need that tech insight of yours! Please and thank you :)
