You mention that is not good for your eyes watching things near your face. Is true, but this doesn't apply on VR headset. The reason is (Oculus for sure, all of them as far as I know) that the lenses move the focus of the screen indefinitely far away, the natural resting focus for our eyes.

If you are looking at a VR building 50m away, your eyes will physically be focused on a point 50m away. If you are looking at a horizon, both eyes will be looking straight ahead, "focused on infinity".

The focus of every pixel in VR is at infinity, for now. If you are looking at a spoon 1cm at your face, your eyes will be physically focused "on infinity".

Petey We are about 30-40 years away from this being completely possible.
@Petey59 жыл бұрын
Robert Sollorn Yeah that's what I had in mind. It mostly depends on funding and public interest though. The only reason we don't have people on Mars is because no one cared about space after the Cold War.
@robertsollorn64939 жыл бұрын
Petey I feel like there would be huge interest in this. Video Games initially gained popularity because they were both fun and offered a form of escapism, as well as a relief of stress (of course they are so much more than this today). Full Immersion Virtual Reality would offer complete escapism and huge relief of stress. Not to mention there wouldn't really be any other form of entertainment on the planet more fun than FIVR considering you can simulate every other form of entertainment in FIVR, including those which are too difficult to pursue due to time or funding problems like snowboarding or skydiving - instead of spending money and time on a trip you could just do these activities in a virtual world. Plus it would give people the ability to do things they've only ever dreamed of. Everyone has at one point wished they could fly, well FIVR would allow exactly that. It would also enhance technological and scientific advancement even further since you would be able to accurately simulate all kinds of real life problems. We would be able to create perfect worlds with our every desire and wish come to life. It would be the biggest innovation mankind has ever produced, until something later surpasses it.

I have tried both Google Cardboard and the Oculus Rift. My verdict? Disappointing. I have my own Google Cardboard kit, and I have for a while now. Before trying Oculus Rift, I had only tried Google Cardboard. Google Cardboard was good, but it just wasn't good enough for a few reasons. Since Google Cardboard was really cheap and needed a smart phone, I imagined that Oculus Rift would be worlds better. But instead, when I tried Oculus Rift, I was disappointed, it was only marginally better, with the only improvements being that it's comfortable and the places where the screen doesn't go, it's completely black. Virtual reality, in its current state is disappointing and if it stays this way, it will flop after a while when it gets fully released to the public. Remember how cool motion tracking was with the Wii and Kinect? Now look where those two are, barely used at all.
