Quick geek-out moment since the answer in the podcast was a bit blurry - Chime and Ace Aura are seen as the originators of colour bass and melodic riddim. I think Chime is practically the CEO, being the strongest force pushing for the term, pushing for the sound, and with all the work he's done with Rushdown and now Circus. Nawtystep did a great interview with them a few years ago where they really dig into it!

Loved the pod, been watching this channel for 4 years now. I have a question for ya'll and any producers in the comments feel free to chime in as well. I just started really trying to get into producing about two or three months ago. I have tried to learn how to produce multiple times in the past years but quit after being overwhelmed and not being able to express the ideas i have in my head and convert it to Ableton. Obviously I know it takes years and years to get to the level of these producers that can do the simple stuff in their sleep. I have got a little bit better already in being able to get a rhythm and a grove and a vibe in my songs that structurally sounds good but i always have problems when knowing what effects and eq's ect. that a certain sound needs to really make it sound the best it can. I have made a couple decent projects recently where I will have an intro, build up and a drop but always end up scrapping the project because it just sounds a little off or like something is missing. For me its just hard because I have invested so much into my gear and essential plugins and i watch so many videos and have spent so much time learning but it never seems to translate quite right for me. I know people say that your music in the beginning is supposed to sound bad it takes time that's how you learn but for me its also just hard to complete something and know its not great. I really don't know where the question is in this lol I guess I really just complained but any advice would be helpful if you were brave enough to read this far lmao. Cheers!!
@spiritlevelstudios10 ай бұрын
If it sounds off, change it until it you like it. Throw away sounds as much as necessary, but don't throw away your entire project. Learn about subtractive synthesis. Always finish your tracks, and never share them until they are finished. There's nothing more depressing than unfinished tracks. Having completed ones allows you to see improvement across time, and links in with memories and emotions of that stage of your life. Have fun. It's supposed to be playful. It's music for heaven's sake. Watch tutorials whenever you get stuck. Don't try to please anyone else. Make whatever sounds good to you.
