Please note: 1. Badava linga is not floating. The water just flows through the chamber. 2. The name Badava doesn't refer to size (bada means big in hindi). Badavilinga is a combination of two words - Badava and Linga. In the local language, Badava means poor and Linga represents Shiva. Legend has it said that the Shiva Linga placed inside the temple was commissioned by a poverty-stricken peasant woman.

Harihara and Bukkaraya two Kannada youths started the mighty Vijaynagar empire under the guidance of Sage Vidyaranya This was the first Hindu dharma based empire of Indians after the entry of Islam into India. North was totally under foreigners rule at that time. Only small Hindu ruled areas remained there But they were always fighting with each other. But the South Indian people Kannadigas, Andhra and Tulu people united to form a huge empire that lasted for 350 years The Tulu vamsha later continued the empire Krishnadevaraya was a Tuluva Emperor Krishnadevaraya was the unconquered ruler of entire deccan india with a Mighty army and even navy. He was sitting on the Throne of Hampi at the same time tribal invader had just won a war at Delhi -ie Babar . Krishnadevaraya and the then King of Persia were close friends The king of Persia was an enemy of Babur .If Krishnadevaraya had attacked Babur at that time there would have been no Mughal empire .Babur cleverly avoided irritating King Krishnadevaraya. Shivaji Maharaj got his inspiration for Maratha empire by listening to the stories of king Krishnadevaraya( and another Kannada Wodeyar King called Ranadheera Kanteerava )when he was in Bengaluru during his childhood days Shivaji s ancestors were from Karnataka from a place called Gadag .Bhosale the surname of Shivaji maharaj is a changed form of Hoysale another ancient Kshatriya empire of Karnataka Going back to Epic era the same area is also the area of Hanuman Kishkinda Kshetra of Ramayana era is the present day Hampi.Hanuman was a Kannadiga. Karnataka and Kannadigas a most vital part of indian history and culture . North indian origin all india prescribed text books , Punjabi dominated Bollywood North Hindi Newspapers journals TV etc do not give adequate coverage to south indian accomplishments. There should be a statue of Emperor Krishnadevaraya in central.part of New Delhi Why Bollywood doesn't make films on vijayanagar empire,Chola empire ,Hoysala empire etc? Why cant circles and parks in national capital delhi be having names of great south historical figures?

Nice touristic presentation....only big mistake about moving the local population out of Hampi....it's not for floats risks from the river ...unluckily it's again one of our usual heavy corruption purpose....Hampi without it's population will be a dead city....only worth a couple of days for tourist...a pity for such a paradise.....and instead of a very few rich people getting more rich, before it was giving food to more than 600 families....
