CHRIS you have shown us so many historical facts of Tacoma your name will be there among the important of Tacoma. I have forgotten so much of my upbringing in Tacoma but I have has literal flashbacks of locations even addresses where I lived. Because of men like you things won't be forgotten along with your wonderful way of narrating said times and memories. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and the corners of my mind.

1989 At Knapps was where I first met my future wife of 32 years. We met for a morning coffee after she replied to my singles ad in the Seattle Weekly (pre internet, pre voicemail). We've lived here in the Proctor neighborhood since our wedding day. I miss Proctor Hardware where I was a regular fixture during the restoration of our 1895 home on Warner. The famous northwest author Murray Morgan was born in a second floor bedroom in our home in 1916 (varified by the Tacoma Historical Society). My career here in Tacoma for 30 years was with WSDOT in the bridge division Tacoma. When the 11th Street Bridge was re-dedicated as the Murray Morgan Bridge mister Mogan came to the structure and we spent some time together in the bridge tender's control room where he had spent some years as a bridge tender, and during these hours he wrote "Skid Road". A few weeks later he came to our home for a visit and recollection of his childhood years there. Thank You

The city is just a treasure of national history and personal memories. And Christmas wouldn't have ever been the same if I didn't havi Yogi playing on our tape players while we'd decorate the tree.

I am a second-generation Proctor kid. Attended Mason, Hoyt, and Washington Schools. Shopped the candy counter at the Pacific Northwest Shop every afternoon. Saw the best movies at the Blue Mouse (then The Bijou). Bowled at Chalet. Spent my weekends reading at the McCormick Library. What a great neighborhood! Some things have changed now (as they did between my mother's generation and my own) but I always visit my old stomping grounds whenever I am in town.

Growing up in the 80's the Backstage Video building was a bookshop called Book Faire. An independently branded video store (I think just called Proctor Video) was further up on the corner of 26th & Proctor and I'm pretty sure was owned by the people that owned Chalet Bowl.

This is way cool! Even though maybe not as historical as downtown I've always loved proctor and the north end. I grew up there and went to Hoyt / Washington. By the way I work for the valley and Justin says he has those chairs from the theater in storage from when they were getting peaks and pints put together. pretty cool
