My granddaughter rode in her first show yesterday. She’s joined a club /team at the stable where she takes lessons. She was thrown a loop when the horse she was assigned, had a double bridle. She’s never had the experience and I could see by her expression that it threw her a bit. I’ve shared this video with her Mom and hope it will help her should she run into the same situation at another show.

You can see how difficult this would be for a student in the 6th grade who is taking beginner's riding lessons and is assigned to a lesson horse that uses a double bridle. To my mind now, it is a sign that the instructor is either attempting to discourage the student or the facility owners cannot afford the lesson horses needed for beginners. Moreover, it tells me that they don't really care about the horse. For a beginning rider has much to be concerned about regarding development of a good seat and should not have to worry about the intricacies of how to hold and control double reins.

Can someone educate me on cribs. I see no use, to put more metal in the horses mouth. I dont even see the use needing one when someone even tells me that “I have gentle hands and it’s not abusive if I’m using it correctly.“ if you using it correctly would you want the curb lose and contact light. But then if it’s in that case, then why use it at all. If it’s lose most of the time.

Curbs work a little different than direct bits like snaffles. They are little levers, and the purchase(the thing on top of the mouthpiece) puts pressure on the poll as the rein is pulled back. The curb chain also is pulled to move the head. They are stronger bits, but they really help bring the horses head down and tuck their nose in. Hope that helps!

Charlotte Dujarin never crosses the reins, and yet she holds the snaffle rein above her ring finger and the other under her ring finger. Anybody knows why?

Dear Lord, that poor horse with two moving pieces of iron in his mouth, squeezing and jabbing and pinching and pressuring his tongue and bars and lips and palate. I am sorry, but this is cruel. If I could I would make you eat those things. As if one wasn't bad enough. Are you really that totally and completely and utterly devoid of compassion and mercy and empathy? Do you really only care about yourself?

carolineleiden You must not be a very skilled rider if you don't understand that there is a correct way to use these tools. If all double bridles are only abuse, then tell me why Valegro performs happy and ears forward ready to work. Oh thats right, his merciless rider Charlotte Dujardin actually knows how to use her equipment properly

carolineleiden if used correctly it doesn’t cause pain it actually helps the horses you must be very uneducated or a newbie and a bitless bridle does more damage than a bit there a massive amount of evidence to back up the claims.

We don’t make our horse eat them 😂 you must be awfully uneducated on bits. Bit less bridles CAN result in more damage, even a singular bit can cause pain if not used correctly. I don’t see you have a problem with carriage horses or magical ponies that children can paint on, I don’t see you saving the hundreds of horses that get slaughtered every day. You’re only saying that for attention Caroline, you don’t actually mean it or you would’ve mentioned all the horse abuse going on in the world. Think about that.
