and that's how he's selfish. he only cares for himself and those around him, and is overly willing to sacrifice those around him for said cause without the bat of an eye (see: betraying clover for quark, door 3, i can get others if needbe). he justifies himself by thinking himself as a hero or that he's doing good by helping those he cares about, but he's destroying everything around him in his attempt. and then theres the whole akane thing, which reeks of entitlement and selfishness. he feels like he "earned" akane and then boohoos over the fact that she's not some object for him to claim and has her own goals and stuff to do (which is SAVING THE WORLD. HE CARES MORE ABOUT GETTING "HIS WAIFU" THAN 6 BILLION PEOPLE). he completely rejects her true self until vlr, which was barely acknowledgement, and even then still rejects the idea of it ("the akane i know isn't anywhere" no fuck she wasn't real) junpei is selfish as fuck.

Im soo glad after playing Danganronpa Series to have found this series. Both of the first 2 games of Zero Escape are the best story telling games ive ever witnessed. HOLY SHIT and luna for live never thought i could feel so much for a fictional robot character. The music box playing in the background of the scene killed me when I first played it.

Axmak Moonglow Of course fiction gets me. However there is a difference between being a bunch of pixels and being a robot within that realm. Same as being human and being a robot in reality. Regardless of where the robot exists, I cannot emphasize with them. This is based on my doubt that any species can create a species intellectually superior to themselves (and thus reach technological singularity). Her breaking the 3 laws of robotics or having free will didn't really make a difference. AI is such an absurd thing I cannot imagine ever existing, much less than all the pseudoscience going on in VLR.

I've heard a lot of people say that Luna, from a writing standpoint, isn't necessarily a good character because she was "too nice" for her to be interesting. That she wasn't given complex motives or emotions aside from her gentle, kind, soft demeanor. *Well, spoiler ahead, even though the comment section is riddled with the same spoiler* In the context of her ending revealing she is a GAULEM, in my opinion, not only makes her character more likable, but incredibly more interesting. We know from the GAULEM Bay room that the robots are only a part of a computer, but, as the Chinese Room analogy showed, a robot that can act like a human, talk like one, and look like one may as well be one, even if they aren't human at all. Luna was created specifically to trick everyone into believing she was a human, thus her appearance and specific orders from the old woman to maintain the facade. But nevertheless, she did something most humans wouldn't do in her situation: Trust someone unconditionally and consistently in the Nonary Game. At least in one timeline, every character betrayed another at least once; even kind-hearted people like Quark and K, but not Luna. No matter what action was taken, she never betrayed anyone. She tried her best to help the group and provide helpful insight to everyone all while keeping a gentle attitude and smiling. She could be betrayed and not harbor malicious feelings on them; the worst thing she'd do is feel *guilty*. Her perfect niceness, without knowing she was mechanical, would come off to lovers of complex literature and media as poor writing. "How could anyone trapped in such a horrible, Saw-like game stay so nice to anyone? She's just a boring, nice character without any thought of expressing human psychology. She's just a filler character, in that case." But, she isn't human. She wasn't meant to see how people would react in a life or death situation like most participants of the game. Her role was to make sure the game went smoothly and blindly follow orders. That's it. GAULEMs are just a computer controlling a metal skeleton . And yet, everything Luna did, she felt something. While she was watching the old woman be murdered, as Alice killed herself, as Dio killed everyone, she felt remorse for them, that she couldn't save them. She broke the first law of robotics by allowing a human to die for her gain, or rather, her safety to follow orders and stay silent. When she asks Sigma why he would trust her, it's obvious to her that she was not innocent; "I just let all these people die in front of my very eyes, some of them completely innocent people." Throughout the game, it questions your trust of Luna. "Will she still be innocent? Is Luna truly this kind?" Every single time prior to her ending, she proved she was genuine. But ironically, the ending, in showing that Luna was robotic, that she betrayed her orders to see Sigma one last time, that showing she could've done something to save every participant, made her even more genuine, even more empathetic, even more *alive*. Her kindness wasn't a mask to pretend she was human, it was just Luna being Luna. Maybe she was faking it to be more human, but it doesn't change her actual sorrow in seeing everyone she got to know die, it doesn't change the tears she cried in Sigma's arms, it doesn't change that desire for happiness she sought. Luna, quite possibly, is the most human person written for Virtue's Last Reward. And she wasn't even human. Uchikoshi was able to write such a beautiful character and insight into human desires without the subject being human. Luna is arguably the most fascinating of the 9 characters to me; and she's definitely my favorite character of VLR. Maybe even my favorite character in *video games*. Anyway, I wanna read The Blue Bird now!

Ared twotwofive just finished the game and wanted to correct a couple of things. Phi doesn’t die in that ending. She decides to freeze herself sometime after the ending so she can be in the ambidex game. Diana does die sometime in the future after having spent time with Sigma. This is not the same Diana that birthed Phi and Delta so she still has her blue bird music box which we can assume she told Sigma about while they were on the moon. After Diana dies, Sigma creates Luna based on Diana.

One thing I love about her character is how she’s a bit of a paradox, in her writing. People mention the irony in how it’s the robot that never lost her humanity, but honestly? That’s the entire thing. By never losing her humanity, she ironically showed she was the least human. Why? Because losing your humanity, in a situation like this, is *incredibly* human. Whereas real humans are flawed, make mistakes, betray each other and commit atrocities. Luna is a reflection of what humanity should be, and can be at their best. Kind, generous, loving and trusting. But it’s exactly that, the fact that she’s so perfectly human no matter what, that shows her inhumanity. I just think that’s masterful writing.

At the end of Luna's ending I was literally crying for like 15 minutes. Her character is so goddamn well written, I very rarely ever cared so much about a character. Whenever I had to betray her, it just felt like my heart was gonna burst out of guilt. She's easily my #1 waifu ;__; I just can't believe that this game didn't sell enough to make a sequel. Both games in the Zero Escape series are considered as one of the bests or even simply THE bests Visual Novels ever made, for Haruhi's sake ! That just how sadly unpopular this genre is.

I want this to play on my funerals. The songs start with a music box, reprensenting childhood. Then the song evolve into a whole new melody, meaning someone who is changing, growing up and learn. Then, when it's all over, the song play the music box again, meaning a whole new life started even if the person you love died. This song is a masterpiece. The entire series can be crazy and arguable about it's writing but they nailed it so much with Luna. The entire scenario did good in depicting the paranoia and how we have a point leading us to betray others. From their point of view and knowledge, the easy way out would have been if everyone allied. But like I said, that is where the shitty nature of humanity comes in. But then you have Luna who was standing out. I believe it is implied but still arguable if she became conscious or obeyed orders or simply was stuck in between. Matter of fact is, the robot made the most sense from having a heart, so to speak. Which is a stark contrast to how everyone else just goes to sacrifice and betray the other at some point. It's a nice social commentary, really. It's natural human behavior cause without exception is willing to betray someone given the right conditions. But Luna represents that what we could be but will never be. Fully trusting and loyal even in such a environment. I would like to say "Luna is being the most human character despite being a robot" but at the end of the day, it's hardly normal behavior from how humans are. But the Robot being a BETTER human tells a lot.

I see a bunch of comments saying "Luna was the only trustworthy participant, the other players were just selfish!". The truth of the matter is though that these are all people who've never seen each other before, with their own things they hold important to them, with their own beliefs, and of course the desire to leave a sick and twisted game in which people can die. They don't even know whom of the others they can trust. They'll fight for what's important to them. It may look selfish from an outside perspective (and it may be true), but from their viewpoint it's always reasonable to at least some degree. (Trying to avoid actual spoilers:) Clover and Alice want to get out and get back to the very important operation they'd started. Even if it'd have cost his life, Tenmyouji wanted to save Quark, the person he holds most dear, who in turn was just a kid who got swept up in the madness. K lost his memories and wanted to recover them, and in most endings he had the intentions of getting help to save the rest of them. Even Dio truly believed he was doing the right thing, despite his actions being motivated by twisted beliefs and a twisted goal (though I'm not asking you to have sympathy for him lol). This is what they fought for, no matter the cost. However they were never heartless, and could never achieve their goal by bringing down other people's BP down to 0 or below (with the exception of one person). (SPOILERS:) And Luna? We of course know that she didn't have any intention of leaving the facility, and due to her being a gaulem, she was never in danger of actually dying, so she had no reason to betray. Besides this, she was following the laws of robotics, so she couldn't perform any actions that would bring any of the others in danger. Of course, this doesn't invalidate her feelings or our feelings toward her. She was a real person, even if not human. However, my point is that people having their own values, beliefs, and goals isn't just selfishness, and it doesn't make them worse of a person compared to someone who is loyal.

I'm a bit of a completetionist. So of course I went back to get all the bad endings. Luna was the only - ONLY - character that made me not want to see the bad ending. I sat there in front of the Ally/Betray buttons and actually considered shutting down the game then and there. Of course, I did it and saw, and felt horrible. But the fact the Luna made me stop dead in my tracks, and not want to see her betrayed, dispite only being a silly game ending, shows how much of a strong character she is. Her ending stuck with me in a way that no other ending in this game did. Not even the proper, true one. Beautiful character, through and through. She alone made this whole game worth it.

Out of all VLR endings, Luna's had me really off guard and made me tear up. I _did_ suspect her somehow being probably connected to Zero Jr. in some way (since in Japan moons have very strong associations with rabbits, in this case Luna, meaning _moon_, and Zero Jr., the _rabbit_). But... but... I definitely didn't expect it to end it that way. I actually teared up. MY WAIFU LUNA.

I fear that you might’ve gotten quite spoiled already so my advice would be to just play the games, the Zero Escape trilogy is a hidden gem I swear. 999, Virtue’s Last Reward and Zero Time Dilemma - play them in that order. You might get bored or dumbfounded at first since it’s a fantasy visual novel that sometimes like to pull up some most random stuff ever and it’s definitely a bit hard to comprehend but if you’ll stick through you’re gonna have the best time of your life honestly

This music will always make me cry and remembering how sad Luna's story is too. I love to see all the comments in this video and all the love and care people have for her. Luna is such a great character, and despite not being a real human, she was the most empathetic and well, human, of them all. Luna will always have my heart and I wish Zero Escape wasn't so underrated, it's one of the best franchises I've ever played and the characters are so well made. It's so heartwarming and wholesome to see people loving Luna, I just imagine if she could see how much she's loved, she would be so happy. I literally felt so guilty betraying Luna to branch out the story so I would often Ally with her first before betraying her, at the very last section for her ending whether you ally or betray her I chose to ally first and got her ending, so following the logic behind the bad endings, I knew that there wouldn’t be anything but a bad end if I chose to betray so because I was so moved by her, I stopped at her ending and skipped the bad ending for hers. She was just that precious to me, to the point that I completed every other ending besides the bad ending for her route. And I honestly don’t regret it one bit. Even if my progress is 99% :,)

Not really relative but can we agree ZTD was still a great game. I know a lot of people didn't like it for certain reasons specifically because of a huge paradox but personally I feel it was a great finale to the series. People think Luna's humanity comes from her kindness, but to me that's a bit of a flawed assumption. To me Luna's appeal comes from her ability to make mistakes, like she said, she broke the laws of robotics, while normally robots are supposed to protect humans according to the laws, and for them the laws are supposed to be absolute. But Luna was forced to break them for the greater good, and that's makes it even more sad when you know that she didn't want to break the rules. While playing the game she tried to protect everyone the best she could, by chosing only the best outcome for everyone, she followed the laws to the point where she couldn't, and when she broke them she paid the price. She sacrificed herself to save Quark because she couldn't bear to see a kid die when she could save him. And it doesn't help that she was made to resemble someone else, and being made by Sigma she probably knew who she was inspired from, making it even more sad when she probably developed the same feelings as her original by the end. So while Luna did the best as she could, because of her lack of malice you could say that she failed to pass as a human until the end where she finally understood what it takes to be one. Humans makes mistakes, has malice, and break rules all the time and most of the time aren't punished for it. But to her, it only took one hint of humanity for her to "die". So it shows how heavy and weirdly wrong it is to be a human. It's one the things that this game does so beautifully, even in a fantasy setting, it shows the harsh reality.

I never understood the Three Laws of Robotics: if you are a robot and you have to follow a set number of rules then you are definitely not being human. The whole thing about humans and humanity in general is that we are flawed. We constantly make mistakes, behave differently from one another and not think alike. We do random stuff. We fear of death. So I feel like Luna’s character showed the perfect amount of humanity: she has broken the first law - she did something different, that wasn’t expected of her robotness. And why? She was afraid of dying - the sole reason of why people do the craziest stuff on earth. Luna also showed signs of self-awareness and self esteem issues. To which one could say that it was simply her programming, but having in mind what I said earlier makes her even more human in my opinion. She was sorrowful that she broke the first law(but if we take the 0th law she actually never broke any of them, but just her contemplating about breaking one is already something of a human characteristic), let others die(when she could’ve prevented that) and she felt like “a machine that just pretends to be real”. Her flaws made her seem more unpredictable which in turn made her human in my eyes

I remember being so nervous in my first AB game with Luna. It was my first playthrough of the game, so I had no idea what to expect. I spent 5 minutes before choosing to ally. I was really nervous as I waited for the results. Then I saw: Betray. Ally. Betray. Ally. I was praying for Luna to choose ally. The wait was unbearable. And then finally I saw: Ally. Ally. I almost cried out of joy. It was at this point that I decided that Luna was my favorite character.

Also, there is some rumor about that girl on the Nevada Test Site, one of the three that were alive, being the girl the doctor based Luna on, because of the same voice actors... So, she must have been someone special to Sigma, for him to do a robot of her. Remember the part that Akane says that Sigma fell in love once? SPOILERS 999 and VLR are the best game i played in my entire life and believe me i played a lot of games. I really love morphogenetic sorrow and Blue bird cause it's so emotional. And for my favorite characters i really liked Akane and Luna. The one thing about Luna is that she acts like a human. More human than even a real human. I mean we people created robots to be programmed to do what we say and only do stuff on matter of calculation. But they exceed that law and does what is right. We humans are coward bastards who thinks only of ourselves and it really amazed me that actually robots are better than human in a lot of way. Akane on the other hand i trusted her a lot in 999. but I was damned. I never thought she would be that calculating and cold. I have to say that she was kinda creepy when i found out that she was zero. But she was one of the greatest masterminds out in the fiction universe and it's amazing how she pulled this off. And i have a spark of hope that she still have feelings for Junpei.
