When I chained 6 in the beginning I was left with a hole big enough to put my thumb through. Could I use a magic circle instead of chaining 6 or would that mess up the pattern?
@JonnaMartinezCrochet3 жыл бұрын
You can try a magic ring. There will be holes bigger than that in this pattern though. Every chain 5 there is going to be a gap at least that big. It’s a every lacy design.

This pattern was what got me super into crochet. Your exact video is responsible for bringing me endless joy. I made this for my Nana 6 years ago when she moved into a nursing home. A few years later she came to live with me, by then she didn't know who I was anymore. But she still had her blanket. Every time she used it (almost daily) she would tell me "my friend made it for me a long time ago, I can't remember her name but she was so sweet" and I'd tear up every time. She passed away at the end of 2019, and I now have the blanket. I'll never forget about it or your tutorial. 💕💕

I had like a dark bluejean color, lime green, and a verigated light blue/lime green/white/and dark blue. thanks so much for the super easy tutorial!

I love this pattern! I let my husband pick the colors and pattern for the baby blanket I'm making for our first baby (due in 5 weeks!) And it's coming together beautifully in mint and variegated pastels. It took about 12 rows before it started to lay flat but now that it is I can see it's going to be a very pretty blanket!

Thank you for this video! I'm going to have to make this one. One thing that I LOVE and that I appreciate you doing is telling us that at the beginning it doesn't lay flat. I always get to that point and think I've messed up somewhere. It's nice when I'm told "If it looks funky, that's normal".

You did a very good job with the instruction. I am on row 12 and it still is curling up and looking wonky. Any suggestions?
@JonnaMartinezCrochet6 жыл бұрын
Hello Ruth, That is very normal if you have the right stitch count. Depending on yarn it might need to be blocked after you finish it. Take the work with your hands and pull it out in all directions. It’s also a lacy pattern so completely flat is not really a thing. Thank you for watching commenting.

started making this in 4.5mm with Aran yarn and it won't lie flat..also started one with 5.5mm and same yarn and it's still ruffled..I'm on row 11 and not sure whether to start again or carry on..should this be flat at this stage?
@JonnaMartinezCrochet8 жыл бұрын
I've never worked in that yarn, but when you say ruffled, do you mean almost curling into itself or just a little crumpled? If it's just unattractive at this point that yarn might need to be blocked. If you are part of any yarn groups maybe ask if anyone else had made it with that yarn. Let me know. 😉
@Thekatswhiskas8 жыл бұрын
+Jonna Martinez its the UK equivelant of worsted...I mean that it's a bit crumpled at the sides...I have stretched it slightly and looks a bit better..I am going to block it once I have finished...I am on a few crochet groups so will let you know how it goes..Thank you.

I love this blanket but I can't seem to make it work. I've read your comments about some of the buckles/wrinkles evening out as you get further along, but mine seems to be getting worse (I'm on round 12) and won't sit flat at all :( I've tried using a larger hook with the same yarn with no luck. I wish I could add a pic here some some advise, I was trying to make this blankie for my baby due in May.

I made myself the Virus shawl recently and both daughters really liked it, but said they would rather have a lap throw. I was very happy to see this for the Virus blanket. It works up so quickly I may have them both finished in time for Christmas. Thank you for a great video.

That's wonderful! I do find the blanket to me more useful in my life. I love how fast the virus patterns work up too. They will make beautiful Christmas gifts. Thank you for watching my videos and commenting. 🌸🌸

It took me 3 tries but I think I finally understood the directions. I had to undo the 1st 4 rows so many times because I didn't count correctly. Seems I cannot talk and crochet at the same time when following directions, so now - no friends are allowed to distract me until I finish this blanket. :-) Many thanks!

I love this video and I have been crocheting along. Much to my delight, this is turning out very well! I purchased your pattern and have it to follow. Now I'm going to start repeating the sequence, but I want to make sure I am repeating the correct rows. Can you comment as to what rows I repeat on the printed pattern, as they go from Row 1 to Row 8. I have Loopy Row, 1st DC Row, 2nd DC Row, and DC Ch1 DC Row, which on the printed pattern is Row 1 thru Row 4. Thanks for such a great video!
@JonnaMartinezCrochet6 жыл бұрын
Loopy row, 1st dc row 2nd dc row Dc ch1 Dc row These 4 rows you repeat. Down at the bottom of the pattern (last page) It should tell you this. Thank you for purchasing the pattern and for watching the video! I’m so happy it’s working out so well for you. Thank you for watching and commenting!

+Chenda William On the Red Heart website, Shimmer is discontinued. On Amazon, the few skeins I saw were outrageous on price. To give you an idea, the one skein I saw of Red Heart Shimmer in white was priced at over a thousand dollars

I really enjoy working on this blanket. I chose a multicolored yarn for the project so I am not changing colors. I am on my sixth skein of yarn and I believe I am just about done. It's for a dear friend. I also plan on making one for my new grand daughter. I will be using white, light pink and light purple for that one. I will be using this wonderful pattern again. The video really helped me learn this pattern and it is so enjoyable. Thank you so much!!

I've been wondering, does anyone know why they're called virus blankets and shawls? I don't disagree that this is a beautiful pattern, I'm just curious how they came up with the name.
@JonnaMartinezCrochet7 жыл бұрын
+Zim Vader0017 I named it that because it uses the same stitch as the virus shawl. The virus shawl got named that from my understanding, that it was a mispronounced word and then it took over the Internet like a virus. But who knows. There is also almost the exact shawl on Ravelry as the German shell shawl. I would like to rename this pattern the German shell blanket but I don't think anyone would find it! Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸🌸🌸🌸
@jennyobiliseen43017 жыл бұрын
Zim Vader0017 maybe it was named virus for the half circles multiple like a virus throughout the rows. That was my initial understanding?

Perhaps because of the way it grows? The arches multiply, kind of reminding of how a virus would/could.
@jonna2037 жыл бұрын
Zim Vader0017 it's called the virus bc when it was originally downloaded the pattern went viral
