I think people read this scene wrong. Realizing that Viserys only told Rhaenyra about the Song of Ice and Fire is only relevant to Rhaenyra and not necessarily a knock at Daemon. Daemon was the presumptive heir, never officially the heir. Viserys held the hope of having a son, specially because he thought of himself as a dreamer, who had the dream of his son’s coronation. Viserys also knew Daemon well, and knew that Daemon is not one to give value to the dreams. Not sure about the books, but in the show Daemon doesn’t even believe in Harrenhall being cursed. In the scene Daemon is acting out the frustration he feels about Rhaenyra following in the footsteps of her father, and even considering giving up the throne for the prophecy. Daemon is more interested in keeping the throne away from the likes of the Hightowers. What matters is Rhaenyra understanding that her father truly believed in her for the throne and trusted her. It is now even more important for her to hold the crown. She bears the true purpose of the Iron Throne.

He wouldn't be so angry if that's all he wanted to get through Rhaenyra's head. He is angry because it meant Viserys never trusted him as an heir, he was angry enough about never being made hand. He's trying to get Rhaenyra to go to war because he's furious about what the Hightowers did, yes, he's angry they've gone against his brother's wishes, he's angry his niece turned wife has been usurped, and he's also angry at the idea Rhaenyra might just give up on enacting any vengeance over that slight. But that doesn't mean that the prophecy and hearing about it didn't anger him, didn't vex him. It's hearing that Viserys trusted Rhaenyra with it but not him that sparked his grabbing her neck. It wasn't the first instance of Rhaenyra openly voicing that maybe she should consider giving up her birthright for the sake of peace, she had already said before that point that a Queen should protect her people above her own ambitions, or something similar, in front of everyone on her council there.

So in the books Rhaneyra gets eaten by Aegons dragon and Daemon also dies. Along with the majority of the dragons and basically all the main characters we know now. but the stories are told by both maesters and a court jester. The book (in the context of asoif) isnt supposed to factual. So yes the maesters could pass their opinions off as fact. Some of the maesters themselves weren't actually present during most events. So of course a woman wanting to be queen would be seen as morally grey by the men that recounted events.

The One thing I didn't like about this scene was... I completely understand he's far more devastated (whether or not he likes to show it or say it) about King Viserys Death, and I'm sure the death of his Daughter. His anger is normal, but this scene bothers me. What exactly was the point of him "having" to choke her?!? Was it necessary?!? Especially, with all that was going on. Yes, he thinks he should have been heir to the throne, but he's still very close to it with Rhanerya as his wife. As a viewer, I just feel it wasn't necessary other than to make him look like a complete shit. 🖤✖️🖤✖️

Daemon, like all Targaryens is susceptible to bouts of short temper and madness, especially when born from incest. In the books he is even nastier, carrying on his affair with Mysaria and possibly Nettles, and disappearing to fight the war for 2 years ,completely ignoring Rheanyra and their sons. He was never a truly good person to start with, and the scene reminds Rheanyra that this is not the charming uncle she wanted to bang when she was younger.

And just because the king named her heir, she can't be queen. It was Daemon from the beginning who made all the battle plans , captured places, invaded King's Landing and made her queen. Without him, the blacks would have lost to the greens in just a few months. Rhaenyra has only the tag of heir, nothing other than that. She has allies only in the North who were already in tough situations. And there is Vaghar to consider. Vaghar, Sunfyre and Tessarion would smoke the blacks. And many lords surrendered to Daemon during the Dance because they feared him. If people had actually listened to Daemon and removed Otto, the Targaryen legacy would have been retrieved.

The Dance proves Daemon wrong. The Targaryens of this era are the most useless, dumb, weak, or crazy. We see in the show from looking just a little bit deep into decisions how hilariously worthless most of the Targaryen royals are. Some might come to the defense of Aemond or Daemon but they are arguably the worst of the whole bunch considering that they are both very erratic crazy mass murderers who's ideas of kingship are about being tyrannical warlords. These two represent everything wrong with House Targaryen. Now that that's out of the way the Dance shows us that, despite also having dragons, none of the important Targaryen royals in this era have what made Aegon I or Jaehaerys I great.

Naaaaaah, it looks like he knows something else about the prophecy and didint expect Rhaenyra to know, maybe he knows even more than Viserys, he study more magic and history, have been to more places, has the strongest dragon bound of all, he knows Valyrian and some knowledge about blood magic. If we found out if nettels is a children of the forest, maybe Daemon is just at the other side of the prophecy, anyway, we still dont know enough and probably is just my interpretation from a far more dark and intense reaction from knowing a crazy prophecy writen on a dagger, not just " oh, my brother never told me that, i'm so sad i will choke my wife with the creepiest look a character had this season".

I think it has more to do with his brother was so obsessed with his dream about having a son it literally killed his wife trying to make it happen, and then having a son pretty much killed his entire family and the dragons. Daemon always thought his brother put too much effort in dreams and not enough in the real world around him. Besides the grief Daemon was feeling losing his brother he was also angry to see his wife going down the same path as her father and his brother and being focused on a dream instead of the reality that was around them.

He never told Daemon or Rhaenrya this because Ryan and Sara are just trying to connect the main serie to this serie so people can connect the dots yet how can we when they decided to not make any of Rhaenrya and Daemon’s great 7x and 6X grandchildren the prince that was promise and gave to Arya because “the audience” wouldn’t have guessed it. Viserys I and Helaena were not dreamers and even as they are, their so call prophesies are just previews of what is coming on the next week episode. Sara wrote that so Daemon could choke Rhaenrya and that is it. Daemon knew he wasn’t truly Viserys heir. Because Viserys never made a public announcement about it. However, it was what otto fear the most that could happened and he did not wish for it so he convince Viserys to name Rhaenrya instead. But when Aemma died it came to his luck. Alicent would grant him the throne he wanted. But they were not counting on Viserys sticking with Rhaenrya as heir even after alicent gave the king 3 male heirs.

I hate Aegon as much as I hate Rhaenyra since both act like brats, but Aegon is atleast appropriately despised by Alicent, Otto and Audience alike for his misdeeds but Rhaenyra is not. This show is meant to be a morally grey wasteland. Almost all characters have both good as well as bad points, showing the complexities of human nature. To a good audience, they would appreciate the story, the people, the acting. Unfortunately, we are currently surrounded by idiots with neither standards nor morals. If they find a character good looking or charming enough, they'll immediately start worshipping them, their glaringly bad points forgotten. People treat alicent as the devil and rhaenyra as a goddess, but they're completely blind how politically incompetent she is. In her youth, during her suitor meetup, she insulted high lords as she wished left right and centre just because she was in a higher position than them. And when she declared herself queen, had a surprised pikachu face when none of these lords were willing to support her. She could've politely rejected them while using this high scale meet to make new connections and increase her strength. Jahaerys, a far better monarch than her, spent painstaking years to settle the dispute between the houses bracken and blackwood, and she managed to restart it in less than 5 minutes. The rocky way she handled the velaryons was also no stellar job. Neither aegon nor rhaenyra was fit to rule, and honestly its good they died early, as aegon the younger and especially viserys the second were far better rulers. Jacaerys actually had the best political brain, but he died too young, so no point talking of that.
