Panditji use to come to Bhilai to his elder sisters house when he was very small boy in teens. I was fortunate he was our neighbors for many summer. Vacations. We Bhilaian feel proud of him. He also performed in our house. He is so friendly and use to admire all his senior musicians such as Sunil Ganguli.I use to think he is greatest even before he became famous. But he admired all musicians. That's why he became so great.

Although the Aalap portion has not been uploaded in this vedio, normally VM Bhatt's originality lies in Slow and steady unfolding of the nuances of the raga. He Beautifies the melody in small steps and slowly ascends the ladder of total bliss. Panditji's playing has a unique blend of impeccable swaras, mesmerizing gamak and meend, exceptional command on both the gayaki and tantrakari angas. Listening to him is always a divine experience with some jaw-dropping moments while he is playing amazingly fast taans. My sincere regards to Bhatt sahib and Denis Kucherov both , probably Disciple of Pt.Kanai Dutta and Ustad Karamat Khan Sahib for this unforgettable experience. The most noteworthy aspect of this audio is the tabla played with immense contribution to the soothing ambience created by the memorable melody presented superbly by a legendary, exceptionally gifted instrumentalist .

Inspiring Minds it would be better if our classical music maestros don't do experiments with the traditional design of music instruments.
@editorjuno5 жыл бұрын
@@tejasvi18joshi -- The tone of the mohan veena is superior to that of any "traditional" veena just as the tone of the violin as adapted to the southern Carnatic style is superior to "traditional" bowed instruments of the subcontinent. Tradition is a living thing and develops by incorporating influences from other cultures -- it respects the past, but is not a slave to it. Panditji's guru, the late Pandit Ravi Shankar, played a traditional sitar in the traditional manner, but saw no problem with the introduction of innovations like the mohan veena into the great tradition he embodied.

What is he wearing on his fingers?
@rabbi1203487 жыл бұрын
Finger picks. Instead of one pick held between the fingers. Often used in American folk music. I don't think they would work on a sitar, but on this where the strings are in a straighter line, like a guitar, it works great.
@manikshamik7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying :) . Will this pick be suitable for playing fingerstyle on dreadnought?

It's called Mohan Veena. It's a guitar modified to include the sympathetic strings like sitar.
@MartinDambachsueffisant5 жыл бұрын

@editorjuno5 жыл бұрын
The mohan veena's body is patterned after that of a large archtop/f-hole guitar, an instrument that was essentially invented in the 1920s by Lloyd Allayre Loar, an American in the employ of the famous Gibson company. The rest of the mohan veena is entirely of Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt's design. Panditji uses a steel rod in his left hand to control the pitch of the three melody strings, a technique first introduced by guitarists from Hawaii -- this is very different from how a sitar is played with the fingers of the left hand on a fretted neck, using a bending technique for the subtler pitch variations.
@BubbaZen105 жыл бұрын
From looking at it, i think you could hold it as a regular guitar and play it, but the strings look a little high off the fret board. I would actually prefer to hold it that way and play slide on it i think.
