For most of the 30 years, intermittently, that I a non-initiate have concerned myself with Sri Vidya, it’s mostly had to do with lifelong theological interests. But today I find myself thinking of the sheer beauty of the mantra and yantra. The name Tripurasundari, when I ponder its meaning, applies first and foremost to the beautiful 15-syllable mantra and the poetic cadence of its three phrases. Beginning with “ka”, the mantra has active elegance and charming authority. Every phrase ends in Hreem, the sacred syllable of Ma Shakti, the creator, sustainer, and terminator of all the worlds. In effect, the 15 syllables are a powerful declaration that all realities are constituted of and by Shiva-Shakti. Moreover, the sonic mantra is married to the visual power of the yantra. The two reinforce each other. They have the same persuasive aesthetic. They both convey the sense of effortlessly elegant movement-- reminding me of those peak moments when I am suddenly awestruck by the natural world and the uncanny power that has brought it into being. One last observation, which (I can’t help myself) verges on the theological: Not just to me but to many other people down through centuries, the thought has occurred that the 15 syllables of the mantra are a meaningful reference of the Moon-a reference that (somewhat humorously?) comments on the character of Creation. In the Hindu calendar the month is organized by the 15 tithis (fifteen 12 degree arcs) of the waxing and waning lunar hemicycles. Inherently, each hemicycle carries the completing or complementary seed of its opposite. Sri Yantra represents the Completing Seed of the Opposite by the number 16, the number associated with Beauty (cf. Shodashi). The number signifies something like the cosmic beauty mark. For me, the 16 petals of Sri Yantra represent the fundamental method of cycles and opposites in this divine creation. The same truth is represented by the yin-yang symbol. In the midst of light, there is the seed of darkness. In the midst of darkness, there is the seed of light. Ad infinitum. Shreem. The spontaneous beauty and inexhaustible fertility of the divine.

@@VishwaYoga Your appreciation is so encouraging. In return I have to say that, except for a few months spent with a circle of upasakas, my study of Sri Vidya has been a solitary pursuit. I am now in mid-70s, and you are the first and only person I have encountered with not only the background but also the open-mindedness that makes me comfortable enough to share my non-initiate’s uptake of the mantra and yantra. The tradition is a thousand years old. Consequently, there is a defended cultural adaptation which is indeed valuable, but which also tends to resist thorough-going examination and historical criticism. There are always exceptions, of course, because Shiva-Shakti have no difficulty to promote a paradigm shift whenever and wherever they wish. Sri Vidya as we observe it today is largely a ritual tradition--and I am only minimally a ritualist. Neither am I engaged in the aspect of Sri Vidya that conjoins kundalini-yoga. Mainly I am a person who is sensitive to sacred symbols and their theological implications. However, because of your encouragement, I will turn my mind towards a still brief but fuller version of my foregoing remarks on the mantra. Unless you indicate otherwise, I would share this via message to vishwayoga.com. As for the yantra, there is much more complexity. I have files of past observations. As expected, the interpretation of inner features like the central triangle proceeds from the contemplation of well-established concepts like the triad of iccha-jnana-kriya. However, because I am a hobbyist astrologer, my interpretation of the outer features of the yantra is significantly conditioned by the astrological correlations I find there.

Please feel free to write me at vishwayoga@hotmail.com , I agree with you what you said, I am minimalist in ritual too, my master says when you get too much involved in rituals you lose the focus and essence, it is important to have focus on the practice. There is a shot form and compressive way to do the same. Those who have luxury of time and love doing rituals it is great for them. My practices are mostly meditative in nature.

@@VishwaYoga Thank you so much! When I have finished editing, I should have about ten pages of reflections on the yantra, mantra, and deity of Sri Vidya, A second topic: Over the months that I've been enjoying your video series, from the tenor of some of your remarks I've developed the impression that you might be in the Himalayan lineage of Swami Rama. I am sensing something akin to that spirit. Hope it doesn't go amiss to say so.

Hello Sir! Thank you for imparting such knowledge as I was trying to understand more about Sri Vidya, guess its a blessing from Maa finding your channel. A question arised to me, why isn't Mata Sita prominent in Shakta tradition? I haven't come across any tantrik texts regarding her? Why so? Thank you!
@VishwaYoga3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. Though every rupa is form of divine mother in Shakta tradition, but formally Das MahaVidyas are worshipped in this tantric tradition. You can find Maa Sita in Vaishnava tradition Texts. 🙏
