Vishy Anand's NOSTALGIC Drive Through His Hometown

I am an alumnus of both Don Bosco & Loyola College. Anand was three years my junior and I don’t recall ever having seen him in school or college because of his competition schedules etc. I was in Istanbul, Turkey about a decade ago on business. During one of the cocktail dinners there, a young chap asked me where I was from. And I said ‘India’. And he pressed on, ‘Where from in India’. And I said ‘Chennai also known as Madras’. His eyes brightened up and he immediately asked me, ‘Do you know the Tiger of Madras’. Turks were generally blissfully ignorant about India and this guy was talking about a Tiger of Madras. I didn’t immediately make the connection so I asked him what he was referring to and he said it was Chess that he was referring to. He seemed like a big fan of the sport. I smiled. I have been a fan of Anand’s for nearly 35 years now. I said that I knew of him and that we shared alma maters. The Turkish lad was thrilled that he had met me, just because I hailed from the same city as Anand. That guy was a huge fan of Anand just as I was.

Truly wonderful interview Saravanan. One of the few interviews I watched end to end. Loved the pace, the questions and the manner in which you made Anand open up. Truly a gem of an interview that provides such lovely insights into the life of GM Anand at Chennai. Your should do more of these "Steer the Talk" sessions. Kudos again Saravanan.

Poor concept/idea. Vishy is a GOAT. No arguments. But let us be frank the affluent upbringing of Vishy is not having the same feel of looking at the backgrounds of a Pragnanda or the jopatpatti of Yasjeswhi Jaiswal next to the ground. Vishy's house tour (is there a one already) may be a better attraction.
