Hi Matt, so glad you enjoyed the tutorial! The grid is not something we carry but you can find these at your local craft stores or online. A Google search for: Plastic Mesh Canvas Sheets should give you the result you need!

Great video but you did not show us the process of using the pen to mark the grid.. that is where I run into difficulty using any template. For me, it's so tedious I usually give up and that is saying a lot because I am ridiculously patient and tenacious. Please do a video of marking fabric using the template??

I have a pair of light coloured jeans that aren't torn but have a stain that I cannot get rid of. Should I just sashiko over or cut out the stain and sashiko a patch?

Has anyone ever done this to the inner thigh of your jeans? I never get holes in jeans before I get holes in the inner thigh, but would like to try this technique out... Seems like it might be uncomfortable, but I'm still curious lol.

Totally doable, but Id suggest that it would look kinda provocative. Which is okay, if thats the look you've going for. I, myself, just use simple stitch when patching holes like this, stretching fabric while stitching. But i wasnt blessed with full bottom so all jeans on me kinda bundle in those regions anyway and hide any kind of repairs naturally.

They just used plastic canvas for their template. You should be able to find it in the craft section of your local Walmart, any craft store and of coarse online (but I'd recommend buying it the brick and mortar route because to buy it online is usually overpriced.)
