Thank you for watching! If you are a Sashiko visible mending beginner, please also watch this video below. I walk through the materials and tools and the basic tips for stitching which I couldn't explain in this video.
• Simple and easy Sashik...
The Sashiko stitches reinforce the fabric and help to prevent the fabric from stretching further. It also means the mended areas lose the stretch. So make sure that your jeans are not too tight and you can still wear them after losing the stretch in the mended areas.
The method I used for Sashiko is called Hitomezashi.
Hitomezashi uses a grid to create a pattern. There are many different patterns you can stitch using this method.
I drew grids of 5mm squares inside all the circles. You can also use 1/4 inch squares instead.
There are videos explaining some of the patterns I used in this video.
The Dantsunagi pattern:
• DIY mini Sashiko coast...
(Sashiko coaster making Part 2)
The Jujihanazashi pattern:
• Sashiko Cross Flower s...
(Sashiko cross flower stitch)
The flower pattern:
• DIY mini Sashiko coast...
(Sashiko coaster making Part 5)
These videos also explain about drawing a grid.
There is another video where I mended a pair of jeans by attaching a patch with Sashiko:
• I tried visible mendin...
I hope these videos help you mend your garments and extend their lives!

When i do this kind of work, i roll up a magazine inside the leg of the jeans. It prevents me from sewing the jeans to themselves 😂

@cuthulucups4878
@cuthulucups4878 11 ай бұрын
@@chickenleg002 Yeah, it works like a darning egg but bigger! I ran to my sewing stash to try this immediately and this works exactly how my darning eggs do. :) One thing I did a little differently is I shoved a stuffed animal inside my magazine to give it a little more structure since mine was a little on the thin side. I was able to pack it in pretty densely and tape it up which gave me a nice firm cylinder to sew on top of. (I'm sure that with a thicker magazine this wouldn't be necessary.)

cats are a lot more social than we think! they love to be in the same spaces as us, and like to 'mirror' our activities, like the fluffy fellow who sat on the jeans. making them a little spot to do their mirroring, like a spot with some scrap fabric, can keep them satisfied but out of our works way c:

I have just discovered sashiko and have fallen in love with the beautiful designs. I am moved by history, too. I tried my first piece and... made a mess of it 😂 I do know enough about craft to know that it takes practice to get proficient at something. I learned a lot from this video and was happy to subscribe. I think the combination of watching good teaching and practising, even if it is not good at first, is the way to go. Thank you for uploading these videos. I look forward to watching some more. So does my cat 😂

This is the most beautiful way of mending I’ve seen in a while. With a husband and 4 sons, there’s a lot of mending. I have 2 questions, would this work on socks? And where can I get a metal palm thimble like yours? I’ve only been able to get leather ones. I watch from Perth, Western Australia. Thank you for sharing. 🌹Rosie of Oz🇦🇺 & 🐶Omega the Cavalier🐶

@thegreenwrapper Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment😻 I’ve seen Sashiko mending on socks before but I haven’t tried myself yet. The one I’ve seen had a small patch and stitches on it. One thing I need to mention is that the Sashiko stitches prevent the material from stretching. That means the socks can loose the stretch…so I recommend mending just a small area but not on the whole sock if you are going to try it. There is another visible mending video I’ve done before with a small round patch. I feel that this may work better on socks. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpTRq4SKdqp9Y8U But I should try to do a video to see if it works in socks! As to the metal thimble, probably Amazon or Etsy are the easiest place to get. But again, I have a video about making one by yourself using a covered button kit. (I’m in Australia too and I struggled to find one as well!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmTKmX6Bartof5Y I hope it helps! Thank you so much for watching my video❤️

If I were you, I would do one more thing on the wrong side which is a kind of thin fuse or silk like fabric not only as extra support but also make the fabric " SMOOTH " ( not scratching to the skin ) when wearing ..... Only a small suggestion !

Thank you for asking😊 I was using two different thimbles in the video I think. The black one is a soft type I made. You can learn how I made it in this video DIY custom Sashiko thimble for your hand Part 1 - soft thimble tutorial kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZeWdmOoYrV3rLs The metal type is a commercial one. It’s Clover Adjustable Ring Thimble with Plate. I think you can find it on Amazon or Etsy.

What kind of material do u put underneath the hole? Is it a stretchable material or materials that do not fray. Or does that even matter
@thegreenwrapper
@thegreenwrapper Жыл бұрын
Thank you for asking! I used a piece of plain cotton quilting fabric. You can also use denim (thicker fabric is harder to stitch though). But I wouldn’t use stretchable material because the purpose of this method with a lot of stitches is to ‘prevent from stretching further’. In other words, this is not for tight jeans. If you need some stretch, it’s better not to use this method. I hope this help😊

My kitty does the same exact thing. I have a stand up ironing board ordered just because my little flufferkins thinks my tabletop one is her personal bed.

The thimble ring, does it have a specific name? I'd like to find one for myself and this is the first time I've ever seen one

May I ask if it is okay to mend sashiko using jeans thread instead? they seemed to have the same thickness and I've been lookin for sashiko thread all over the town but still I cant find one
@thegreenwrapper

I’m in the same position. It’s not very easy to find Sashiko tools at local shops here in Australia. For denim, jeans thread may be a good option. Try it on somewhere on your jeans first to see if it’s thick enough (maybe with double threads?). I’ve also heard that some people use Perle Cotton thread. It looks a bit glossy but it has the thickness (I don’t have one but I think size 5 or 8 are good). I have a video showing some Sashiko tools and their alternatives here: Basic Sashiko tools and materials (and their substitutes) - Introduction to Sashiko Part1 kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4a1qqd9ob5jqK8 Also, this one shows how to make a thimble by yourself: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmTKmX6Bartof5Y

@@thegreenwrapper Alhamdulillah and thank you for taking the time to answer my question. And yes, I already did some sashiko mending with jeans thread(most I learned from your vids). Trust me you are way more inspiring than you thought. Keep it up!💙

I’m interested to know what you are pushing your needle against, is that some sort of thimble?
@thegreenwrapper
@thegreenwrapper 9 ай бұрын
Thank you for the question😊 Yes, it’s a Sashiko thimble. We often use a long needle for Sashiko and the thimble helps to hold and push the needle. The one I was wearing in this video is from Clover. The product name is Adjustable Ring Thimble With Plate.
