The owners of the buildings charge high rents to try to pay back their debt/ get a quick return on investment before the mall falls apart in 15-20 years from poor building methods and lack of maintenance. Businesses open, try hard to get customers, but with the high rents and and competition from the gazillion other malls and online shopping, they can't make a profit, so they close. The ccp is actively employing traffic fines, "claw-backs", where in bonuses and even wages are given back to the government, and also claiming "back-taxes" on private enterprises are owed, going as far back as 30 years! Then there's the confiscation of bicycles, e-bikes and cars for various reasons. This is being done under the guise of stimulating consumer spending. Even household appliances are subject to these state sanctioned policies. The ccp and xjp are clueless. People won't spend money when they're not secure in their jobs. Worse yet, the average Chinese citizen sees no future. That's why young people are not getting married and having children. Uncertainty makes everything all the more difficult. Hopefully, change is on the way, though it will be challenging, as neither the little Emporer nor the ccp wants to relinquish power. No wonder visa applications are at all time highs. Wondering if Shanghai people are only seeking to travel to the USA. What are the names of other countries that are desirable destinations?

You have to admit, those who left right after Covid were very smart. They probably knew nothing in-depth about the CCP but still left from just observation. But most likely they probably have some experience overseas so they left...

I saw one unofficial map of net migration of millionaires from each nation. China had overwhelmingly the most at like 15k leave. UK was next at 9k. Very at your discretion.

It is happening all over in the "developed" countries and will continue until it is understood by everyone that we are not better or have a right to think one deserve more than another. So stop whining and find away to deal with the above fact if you not there yet.

There's something about Shanghai residents that makes me not completely hate China. They are diverse in their thinking and morals.

How did they get their wealth?

Where are they going? Remember that the better off Chinese people are the tourists observed in recent videos vandalizing and crapping on the street or on subways. Who wants people that are not house trained.

Actually, the world is on the edge of another Great Depression. It's going to be the end of civilization as we know it. Maybe next time humans will do better.
